Default Blown VF52 in my 2009 WRX

So I noticed a funky sound in my turbo last week and took my car in to get it checked out, turns out the turbos no good. Luckily I caught it early and the rest of my car is fine but the turbos essentially shot. The dealership quoted the replacement at $1,825 however it's a 2009, and is at 40,000 miles on the dot. I'm trying to figure out if the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty will cover this or if I'm SOL...it's all stock and hasn't been tuned or modded so I'm pretty confident it isn't my fault.

Has anyone encountered Subaru's warranty policy? If so could you clue me into what steps I might have to take to get Subaru to take care of this?

What kind of sound is it making? I have a 2009 w/44k on the clock. I have what I think is a boost leak, but my mechanic is saying the turbo is going bad...

I have an 09 with 61K and no issues (yet?) with the turbo, I bought the car with ~40 on the odometer and it was a "Subaru certified" leased car which means they gave me a 100K powertrain warranty.

As they tried to sell me the extra bumper to bumper, they insisted that the turbo was not covered under the powertrain. I called them out on it and we went back and forth about how the turbo was "not part of the motor"... Emailed SOA and they stated for sure that the turbo falls under the powertrain warranty. If I were you I would do the same and contact SOA if your dealer denies it. The bottom line is the engine will not run as sold to you without the turbo. End of story.

This is the 2012 warranty can't image it'd be that much different for the 2009. I would figure that the turbo should be covered as part of the engine, the exhaust and the intake manifolds.

if it is a 2009 and still under the powertrain warranty it should without a doubt be 100% covered, if they try to tell you it is not tell them that's a lie and they have to fix it under warranty...just pester the hell out of them until they do it because they should have to pay for it.

When you hit 3k rpms and the turbo starts to spool, its like pressure being released out of a BOV, I could also feel an additional lag in the turbo. Turns out its just the turbine rubbing the housing right before its about to shatter. That's how the mechanic explained it to me.. I'd get it looked at because they said luckily I caught mine early enough before it blew my engine or intercooler.

Alright I'll head into the dealership tomorrow and try to get it all cleared up, thanks for the help guys! I'll keep you posted
