Default Interesting question...

SoI've almost swapped in a 99 JDM WRX motor in place of my valve-trashed 02 wrx motor. Here's the pickle:
...my 02 was coil-on-plug, and the JDM is plug wires- can I use an open source tune or accessport and make this work without a JDM ECM? Or should I get a JDM UTEC? If I can go open source, that's be killer. Any suggestions are appreciated

accessport has no support for JDM ECUs or pre 02 hardware.

Dont think so with OS, here is the supported ecu list http://www.romraider.com/Documentation/SupportedECUs

if you can find an old enough UTEC from japan or australia you might be in luck but you will have to likely redo the entire harness. The UTECs in the states are mainly for the 02-07 cars.

A standalone system might work for you but you loose OBD2 so registration will be an issue. Why would you think running the 99 motor would be a good idea?

Can you take the longblock and transfer over all the WRX components so you can use the stock ECU?
