Default Mercedes-AMG planning more hardcore A45 hot hatch

launch of the A45 AMG marked Mercedes-Benz's first real assault on the premium hot hatch segment. And with 355 horsepower from a 2.0-liter turbo four, it is indeed hot. But the latest word has it that Mercedes-AMG is planning an even hotter version.

Speaking with Auto Express at the LA Auto Show last week, AMG boss Tobias Moers indicated that his department was toying with the idea of a more hardcore version of the A45. In what Moers referred to as a "street fighter," the A45's engine would be tuned to produce even more power, the cabin stripped out and the rolling stock, brakes and aero upgraded for more serious performance.

Think of it, then, as something of a Black Series approach, only it's not expected to carry that name, which has historically been reserved specifically for two-door models. Given AMG's current list of priorities and limited manpower, though, Moers suggests it will be several years – likely towards the end of the model's life cycle – before it may prepare such a model, following a similar formula to the Mini JCW GP and Renaultsport Mégane R26.R. Here's hoping an American version based on the CLA could also be in the cards.

VERY HIGHLY DOUBT THAT.
a loaded STI with all options is around 40.000
a fully loaded A 45 AMG with everything is pushing close to 70.000
a stripped version of the CLA45 AMG starts at 48.000 + taxes and all 50.000 easily.

The STI is great performer without breaking the bank type car .
A 45 AMG is fantastic car but it ain't cheap.

I'm talking about my personal STi would be gone. Not the car as a whole. The STi is a great value but it's lacking pretty much in every department except fun. Hell Subaru won't even give their halo sports car seats it deserves.

I personally would get rid of it in a heartbeat for a stripped base model AMG A45. I would do the same if the Focus RS comes out and is AWD as well (doubt it). I've owned 11 Subarus and love them to death but they just don't give the US what other car companies are starting to do with their NA cars. Look at Ford for example with the Focus ST. It's a bargain hot hatch and not nearly as "sport" focused as the STi and they gave it real bucket seats.

I love my '15 STi but only for so long.

That's why I drive CLA 45 AMG RIGHT NOW. Got rid of my 07STI IN JAN OF THIS YEAR.
I gave up waiting for Subaru puting a new motor in the STI.

For sure. I wish i liked the way the 45 series looked in sedan format. I love the front but the sweeping rear is hard for me to get behind. The hatch looks much better IMO. However that doesn't mean I don't think it's an epic car haha. The interior alone is worth it. How does it drive compared to your old STi? Does it feel more boaty or is it nimble feeling like the STi?

My 07 STi was modded pretty good . Tomei turbo TOMEI equal length headers.
PE 800 cc injectors , omni map sensor, K&S intake ,greddy exhaust,Cobb cattless downpipe, custom protune, process west intercooler. And so on.
This AMG IN STOCK form blows my sti out the door in every category.
Handles like it's on rails. I have the AMG PERFORMANCE SUSPENTION.
Insane top end power .
I actually like the rear if the car was available here as a A 45 I defently would of got it.
The race start is fantastic.
And mods for this car are popping up like crazy now finally. LoL

Interesting.....you're making wish I would have gone and test drove one haha. Nice to hear it handles well. That's my favorite part of the '15 STi is the way it handles and the heavy steering. Not sure if I'm quite ready to give up the MT yet though. Would be ready for the dream car (hatch version). Good to know though.
