Default 02-05 stock wheels on 2011 wrx?

Looking into cheap, dedicated track wheels for my 2011 wrx. I feel like this should have been covered a ton of times but I couldn't find any threads.

Questions:

1- Will they fit? I'm worried about clearing the brakes.

2- From a motorsports point of view, how will SMALLER wheels affect performance? Still looking into the logistics of this, but if anyone wants to chime in on this discussion feel free.

yes they fit.

motorsports? why the hell would you want those? in terms of "motorsports" 2011 stockers > previous year stockers. they are all heavy as hell but at least 2011's have a desirable width for tire options.

Tight budget. I can get like 3 sets of 02 stockers for the price of 17/18'' rota's.

I'm just playing around with different options.

Any reason why?

I've got a track day this friday and I'll be using my DD tires (20k miles on OEM '11 dunlops). Hopefully I don't destroy them to the point of not being able to DD them anymore.

My rationale for the cheap 02 wheels is to save my DD treadlife. Still doing some research on how detrimental it'd be performance-wise.

they are too narrow to put any tire worth using.

a shorter sidewall will have far better feel on the track, not as much slop in the turns.

the only thing that is a benefit is the lighter weight of the smaller wheel.

again...not worth it. you'd be better off doing it the opposite way - use the 02-05 wheels for your DD, and track the 17x8's.
