Default 2012 WRX Limited Seat Rattle

Okay, I'm brand new on this site. I just took delivery of my 2012 WRX Limited. Driving home form the dealer I noticed at rattle/vibration coming from the headrest area of the passenger seat. It occurs on smooth surfaces as well as rough ones. IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY! I immediately took it back and the Service guy said to schedule an appt. and they will adjust the seat tensioner. I'm thinking thats not going to do a whole lot of good as the noise comes from inside the seat back. Anyone else have this problem, or know of a fix?

Better turn around and sell your car because this is only one of many many little rattles that will come and go.
Go to the dealership and get them to take a look at it. That's why you have a warranty

Oh it's going back. I'm just thinking how hard I want to press them....the car's got 150 miles on it and it's like driving around with a can of marbles. Basically I'm thinking a new seat or seat back is in order. But I know they're gonna try to weasel out of it. Just curious if it's a design problem or I got the one with the marbles in it................

Are you sure it is the seat and not from the passenger door area? These cars have a ton of rattles, but I don't recall a seat rattle.

Become the most pleasant, courteous, persistent pain in the ass the dealer has ever seen. They will try every thing possible to help just to get you out of their hair. Be polite and treat them the way you would want to be treated in their position and they will eventually replace the seat. Or you could wrap the seat in dynamat.

I have so many creeks and rattles in my car I dont even know where they are coming from. I've got used to them and barely notice them anymore. Wait until winter...you're in for a treat.

I don't understand where a rattle would come from in the headrest as it's a metal frame, foam, and wrapped in vinyl/leather. Same goes for the seat. The only thing that could rattle in the seat would be the wiring harnesses below it tapping the frame. My guess is the noise you're hearing is coming from something in the seat belt rail (between the doors) or the doors themselves.

It's definately in the seatback, headrest area. I got the leather package, or at least it's supposed to be leather. Both seats do it, but the fact that I'm in the drivers seat precludes it from vibrating. Also the trim around the window on the hatch is noisy as hell, and there is a buzz in the passenger door speaker. I have seen fixes for the speaker and the trim, but not the seat. Thats why I'm wondering if maybe the seat guy in production was having a bad day or if anyone else has the issue. I traded in a Mazda SP3 for this car. It was an 08 and to the day I traded it in, complete interior silence. Kind of disappointed as I have had 3 Subarus previously and all were pretty quiet rattlewise.

Never had a 'seat' rattle, but welcome to the car that has a world of interior rattles lol.

I have leather also and no headrest rattle.

Buzz in the passenger door speaker is a wire tapping inside. TSB exists.

Hatch Trim - I had an 08 Hatch, never had that issue, but I did have the trunk cover (the security pull out cover that rolls up) make noise as it flexes on bumps. Just wedge something between the end that moves and the silver bar.

Are you over 210lbs? That makes seats in the STi creak.

I'll find out tomorrow cuz it's goin' in. Possibly have something to do with the heat elements?? As the headrests are integrated I can't see whats going on with them either, so who knows. I'm taking DZXN's advice and gonna be the sweetest PIA they've ever seen. I hate to do that cuz they really gave me a great deal but the noise is constant. I took that cargo cover shade out....that was horrendous too.

The nylon fabric seat covers are zipped on too. Glad you found the issue.

If it makes you feel any better, I paid more than you did for the same rattle box.

There is another rattle in the seat belt adjusters on both sides. Of course the panel across the top of dash accross the bottom of the windshield makes noise too. Knew that was coming. There will be more im sure after all the bushings and stiffer suspention goes in. Just wish i could turn the radio up but thats even worse because it sounds like the songs are coming through a string and 2 cans.
I just try to amuse myself with this car, wish i still had the 05XT,and thank god its leased
