Check and see if Federal 595s come in that size. (I think the number is 595, maybe 559? I'm gonna go check)

Where are you looking? 225/45-17 is one of the most popular and common tire sizes out there. Tire Rack has 117 different options in that size (and that's not including the winter tires and run flats). If I limit the search to < $160 per tire there are still 65 options.

Where did you find those? I can't even find the Kumho Power Star on Kumho's own website! And is that $170 each or $170 for a set of 4? In other words, what is your definition of "reasonabl[y] priced tire set"?

Ok

I found a NEW set from a local person here for a set Total $170 for ALL 4 tires.

This is why I was wondering if I can put 225/50/17 on a sti instead 225/45/17?

Will they physically fit the car? Probably. They're taller than stock by almost an inch, so you might have some rubbing issues. I don't know enough about the STi's suspension to know if there will be problems with the spring perches, for instance.

Will they perform worth a damn? No. That's a budget-minded family car (non performance) all-season tire that would be great on a 1990s Taurus or Camry. Kumho doesn't make particularly expensive tires to begin with, I didn't realize they made even cheaper tires.

Will your speedometer and odometer be off by a few percent and your gearing be changed? Yes.

So I still vote NOT RECOMMENDED. You can get some decent performance tires for around $400. If you can't afford to spend at least $400-500 on a set of tires, the STi is probably not a good car to be driving.

i dunno why people come in here saying "I CAN GET A DEAL ON THESE TIRES, WILL THEY FIT". when people say its not recommended, they STILL ask "WILL THEY FIT".

will they fit? YES. Will they be optimal? NO.

I feel that if you are only buying what you "get a deal on" then you should probably go back to owning a civic.

buy the right ****. the first time.
