Default What do you guys think about hatchbacks?

Hey everyone. A friend of my wife's is offering to sell me a 98 outback sport hatch for like $1500. Its a 2.2 5 speed with right around 180,000 miles on it. I haven't seen it in person yet but it looks pretty clean and according to him there is nothing mechanically wrong with it. I've been looking for an impreza to have as a beater and i'm thinkin this might be a good one. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have no idea if it has had timing belt service or anything else done to it but i kinda feel like for $1500 it might be worth it.

There going to lock this thread but before they do, I just sold my 97 obs for 2500 so the price sounds good. We loved that car too.

Ha! Mods in N/A. That's funny.

If there was anyone moderating this sub forum on a serious basis we wouldn't have so many dip**** n00bs and jackwagons asking questions about their stereo/clutch/dog/etc and getting weeks worth of replies without it ever being moved to the correct forum.

take the bait, please!

Stop "feeling". A car purchase should be either a rational decision, or a concious irrational and unreasonable move. See, judge, check, compare to what's on the market, accept or refuse. Period.

What do I think about hatchbacks? I like them. What does it contribute to your decision? Nada, zilch, and nothing.

Not really, it's just that noone can help you. As a general rule we don't answer "I saw a used car with XYZ specs for n $ is it good" questions, because they can't be answered. It's impossible to gauge the value of a car without seeing and test-driving it.

Once THAT is done, the other huge variable is the local market condition. Two identical used cars can have a 1400$ difference in price simply because one region has a huge demand for used Subarus, while elsewhere they're an overpriced compact with useless AWD.

We don't know either. The only advice we can give you is to forget the "but its from a friend" part, and meticulously treat is as any used car purchase, and value it accordingly...
