Default FMS/IIR Front Mount Intercooler Kit for 08+ WRX/STi - COMPLETE CRAP! WORST KIT!

So I was wanting a new intercooler kit, wasn't super happy with the RacerX kit I had, nothing wrong with it, just wanted a bigger core so when I did go to a bigger turbo I'd be set up.

I found an FMS kit on here. I know that IIR is the major distributor and from what I can tell they are the company that is behind FMS and puts these kits together. I have recently been finding out that there was quite a few defective kits that came from FMS/IIR and that they knew about it and were still selling them to people, basically just telling them to make it fit.

So through my contact with CuzImChinese (Jonathan Vong) he says yea I have a kit with red couplers, I'll sell you it. I'm like cool. Sounds good. Then I wait about 3 weeks and I ask him if he still has it, he goes no, but I have one with blue couplers and he sends me this picture. Obviously you can tell this is like the good FMS/IIR kit, the endtanks mount at the top, etc. So I'm like OK good to go. When I pick the kit up he is telling me how he just started this company ForceWerkz making lips and he got them into IIR and they are carrying them and how he's a distributor for the FMS stuff that IIR makes and all this stuff. So I have confidence in this guy.

After I get the kit I send the pipes to my powdercoater to have them all coated so when I am ready to install everything looks perfect and I'm good to go. Get the pipes back about a week ago. Last Friday I go to install the new kit, since I have a tune date on Saturday. Looks beautiful right?

Here's where things get fun. Install the crash beam, that's no problem, I mount the intercooler according to the mounts and brackets. As I'm looking at it I am remembering pictures of the kit from other threads and I'm like the core is upside down, something doesn't seem right. I go to mock the piping up and NOTHING is lining up. The core is clearly wrong and the piping does not fit. So I get on the phone with Jonathan, and he's like "well you just have to cut the piping up to make it work." I'm like, uh no, I just spent money getting it coated, I don't really want to cut it apart. So through a bit of creativity I figure out on the cold side I can use some of my piping from my RacerX kit and some from the FMS/IIR kit and get the cold side working. So I get that bolted up. Start on the hot side and it's not even CLOSE. So far apart, I tried everything. I spent about 4 hours working on the hot side piping. I just gave up. Couldn't get it to bolt up at all. So I get on the phone with Jonathan and he tells me he wants to work with me, he'll do whatever I need to help me make it work and yada yada yada. Thats basically where we left it Friday, I told him the kit didn't work and that I was putting my old kit on. I texted him as I left my buddies garage and got no response.

Saturday while I was at COBB I texted him many times asking what the deal was. Emailed him trying to get a response. I got nothing from him.

Sunday I emailed and texted again, asking nicely what we could do, if he could help me out. Got no response.

Monday rolls around. I text and email in the morning. Got no response. So I decide on my way to work, that I was going to call him. Low and behold, he answers the phone! He basically tells me that I am up ****s creek because I tried to install it and I should have known before hand that it wouldn't work. Not sure how that's possible. But then he tells me that he can't do anything about it because I had the piping powdercoated. That it is basically my fault it doesn't fit because I had the piping powdercoated. Also not sure how a coating on the piping caused them to not be the correct bends. He tells me that the manufacturer won't take it back because I had it coated, I tell him that sometimes in business you have to take a loss, because you made a mistake on a kit. It's not your customers fault. He tells me the kit is correct, I tell him it's not even what he sent me a picture of. That the core is incorrect. So I said, I'll send you pics, and go talk with your manufacturer and get back to me. It's now Wednesday and I haven't gotten any response from him. I have emailed asking what the deal is and texted as well.

Here are pics of my core.

Long story short. DO NOT BUY THAT KIT. IT IS A PILE OF JUNK. EVERYONE HAS FITMENT ISSUES. They aren't good with their customer service. I personally won't buy parts from anyone that carries FMS parts anymore. IIR has lost my business by proxy, don't sell and manufacture crap.

When are people going to figure out that customer service is #1? Dealerships, tuners, shops, retailers...I hear so many stories about poor communication and poor customer service. Here's a tip, if you're thinking to yourself "I would love to start my own company and sell X" - stop for a second. Can you back up your ****? No? Then just don't. You'll only embarrass yourself.

it looks as though your core is the correct way, with the inlet/outlet at the top of the core.

The inlet/outlet on your core for the piping doesn't match up with the pictures he sent you or the pictures of the 08-11 WRX/STI kit on the FMS website . I wonder if the kit you have is made for a different car and either the seller knew and didn't tell you, or he genuinely didn't know.

I would contact IIR and see what they have to say about one of their affiliates selling incorrect products and not providing sufficient customer support.

howdy,

as you state below, IIR did not sell you this product. IIR does not make this product. So im not sure why IIR is being dragged into this?
I do sell items to a jonathan vong. im sorry you purchased an item off the internet from another person/company and are paying the price for it.
Buy from IIR and you have our service. the FMS kits WE have in stock fit great.
Basically you are claiming the item is an FMS...but its not. its made by another company.
thanks again!

josh
feel free to give me a call, im here all day and will be glad to clarify this for you.

ps as indicated by the couplers in that pic, that is not the same kit IIR sells. we only have black couplers in stock, and they look much nicer.
looks like an ebay clone.

does IIR sell forcewerkz products? yes. Does IIR sell anything to Jonathan Vong? no

hey guys
Hey guys,

I recently bought an FMS kit from a guy claiming to be a reseller for IIR and FMS.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2409679

I've had a bad experience. Now he is trying to refund me only $100 dollars, basically doesn't even cover the effort of trying to install a defective kit.

Right now I am at my wits end. You have people selling products that are defective, wasting my time, my energy. I'm furious.

I need some help here. This is bull.

besthaticouldo - Based on IIR's response, it looks like this guy misled you into buying an FMS kit that was designed for your car when it wasn't an FMS kit and it wasn't designed for your car.

Yea, basically Jonathan misrepresented himself. Whatever I was sold does not appear to be an FMS kit, not something that Josh and IIR even carry. The piping is different and the color of the couplers is incorrect.

Josh and the crew at IIR are going to help me get to the correct resolution. This is not their fault and they're still trying to help. That's why I will continue to buy parts from them.

Thanks for your help man!

man, I'm very afraid to have this type of customer service problem because I live in another country and many Subaru goodies are sold in USA. If you have all this problem to get a refund, I can imagine it would be worst to me.

Glad to know that Josh and IIR are helping to solve this case!
