Default Raising the 2012-2013 Impreza to look like the Crosstrek XV.

Anyone ever tried or thought of raising their Impreza and adding kick-ass suspensions to make it look and feel like the new Crosstrek XV?

I like the Crosstrek XV cause of it's height, ground clearance, pot-hole proof, and kick ass suspensions, wasn't too happy with the price compared to the 2013 Impreza though so I went with the Impreza, now I regret it...

Thinking of raising the car and adding kick ass suspensions to make it look like the XV, any thoughts?

I think messing with it will lower, rather than raise, the resale value. There is also the issue if the stability of the vehicle, which is probably a non-issue but what if you sell it to someone who rolls it, and comes back at you?

Trade it for the vehicle you want, or raise it and keep it.

I bought it for $19,000, same dealership wants $15500 trade-in value...I might as well sell it on craigslist as is with 1000 miles on it and use the money to get the XV. Will probably get more than $15500 on craigslist.

I know that you know that the frame of the crosstrek is also different, I don't know if the VDC is programmed differently, it isn't just a raised Impreza.

i really just wanted to raise the car an inch or inch and a half. but xv height is too much to mess with the suspension geometry.

dammit, didn't know that. I thought it was the same car except raised higher and better suspensions.

There is a one inch lift kit floating around on the aftermarket forum and the impreza 2012 forum that is designed to fit the impreza and is a fairly straightforward install. If you haven't seen it I can find it and link you to it.

1" lift kit located here.

http://www.subtle-solutions.com/prod...roducts_id=105

I've been looking into raising my car for a while, as I have many many problems with ground clearance throughout the car (front, back, even center with speed bumps no matter what speed!).

1" appears to be the only raise available.

If you haven't already, you also might want to read through this thread for information and various ideas (yes, it's for older Imprezas, but...):

Taller impreza

Really? I hadn't heard that. How did Subaru change the frame?

I read somewhere but can't find the source that they reinforced the frame due to the expectation that more crosstreks would be taken offroad. I know the crosstreks have the same body and drivetrain, but are heavier with lower MPG's, though I don't know if all of the weight difference is due to suspension or if it is partly due to the reinforcement? The plastic cladding cannot account for much...

Of course I can't find where I read it so it might be pre-release bs. It does not help that Subaru has a pretty generic website, that is where you would expect to find this information.

My main concern for XV wannabees is that I'm pretty sure Subaru engineers have access to better testing equipment than they do, and lifting the car without testing or reprogramming the VDC isn't as much a warranty concern as a safety and resale concern.

Any car can rollover in an accident, but if it is your car that you lifted and you have a passenger or you resell it and to the next person who thought it was cool you lifted it until they roll it, that seems like a lot of potential liability (by a lot I mean lawyers would see million dollar signs).

Checking the curb weights of both cars shows that the Crosstrek is only about 80 to 100lbs heavier than a comparable Impreza. That suggests that the majority of changes in weight are attributable to a combination of bigger tires, body cladding, and primarily suspension differences. As Subaru already stiffened the chassis of the Impreza, I think it safe to disregard their claim that the chassis has been stiffened for towing to any significant degree on the Crosstrek. More likely they say the Impreza can't tow because of potential clearance issues and rear suspension ride height problems with heavier loads. I also rather doubt that raising the car by an inch would have a severly detrimental effect on handling to the point of making it dangerous (as this is often done by truck and SUV owners aftermarket). If you raise it more than that then absolutely, but tires alone can change the ride height of a car by a half inch or more. Is it a good idea to begin with? Maybe, depends on whether its necessary. In this case it may be wiser to trade in for a Crosstrek. That said its also probably not that big of a deal since it can be easily reverted to stock.

I put some XV wheels on my 2011 WRX, and I bet I got an inch taller. thinking about getting a 1" spacer lift as well.

hoping my wife doesn't complain about how low her impreza is. we were waiting on the xv but we were paying $500+ a month for her '08 outback sport and the xv is only rated at 33mpg, considering she drives almost 100 miles a day, i decided an impreza would be better for her. she doesn't need ground clearance, thats what my outback is for. glad to know the strut spacers from subtle will fit. what about king springs from the last gen impreza will those fit?

If your wife "doesn't need ground clearance", then why don't you leave her Impreza at its stock height?

well, i dont wanna spend the money, but she'll probably change her mind. she loves the ground clearance of my outback. maybe taller tires will make her happy. she's not complaining now, but i always fear she'll say we should have waited for the XV.

Sounds an easy fix if guard clearance isn't compromised I wish mine had an extra 1" clearance also, just a question but wont installing larger diameter tires affect the Speedo accuracy and the way the Stability control software works on the Impreza ?

That really doesn't look bad! I own a 2013 Sport Limited, but am planning on a Rex as a second car...this might very well do for a "winter mode" setup. On topic, I too am regretting not getting the Crosstrek. The decision to get a WRX this year was made after the fact...

I'm real close to pulling the trigger on the one inch lift from subtle. Now I just need to find me a set of crosstrek wheels...my wife wants hers back NOW!

Anyone wanna trade some wheels?

You could always just plasti-dip your wheels. Many others here have done it, I'm sure they would be willing to help with advice and techniques.
