Who runs heavily modified DD's?
Just like the title says folks, I want to know who here has a heavily modified suby, any gen, any make, and daily drives it 24/7/365? Tell me whatcha got and how many miles you've been heavily modified. Also not any issues that may have occurred. I've gone back and forth with the idea of heavily modifying my DD. I don't drive a ton, work, friends, girlfriend, gym, are all in a 10 mile radius. I also baby the crap out of her lol. I have injectors and a pump just itching to be put in, just not sure if I'm going to go crazy. I'm currently stage 2 280awhp/322awtq. Would love to hear some input on some DD beasts

The maim thing is to always datalog and have gauges. Most people that have issues either get bad tunes, don't monitor there oil levels or don't have gauges. You can't heavily mod a car and just go wot blindly and hope for the best just because its tuned. A simple vacuum hose cracking or coming off ur turbo and boom unmetered boost and blown motor.

Rarely. Most people would be angry about it. At least 3 times a day I would get "you drive a nicer car than me :anger:"....Uhhhh, don't order pizza and a case or 3 of beer every night, then maybe you won't have to drive a jalopy? It wasn't as bad as when I used to deliver in a Mercedes though.

Ahhh yes, another old internet fallacy. If I come into contact with my cage there is a high likeliness that I am already dead from the impact. I am strapped in with 5 point harnesses, and a properly designed cage will not be in the way of the driver. It would be exponentially more likely that my head would make it out the window than come in contact with the cage.

yeah...and there are places in the usa that the pigs see a caged car on the street and it better be on the way to or from a show or its gonna get impounded, one way or the other....and the driver is gonna hafta have DEEP pockets to pay the fines that he is gonna get

just get an experienced builder and tuner and maintain the car..don't rape it everyday and it should be good for a while..I run a built gt35 with meth cams..etc.etc.and I could run it everyday..

5 point harness on the street? do you run a helmet and hans device too? you realize you are at an exponentially greater risk of getting whiplash in a rear end collision when you run a harness without the rest of the safety system. Not only that, but wearing a properly fitting harness makes it hard as hell to do anything other than turn the steering wheel i.e. fudging with the radio, center console compartments, etc. |

The only thing left on my 95 that it left the factory with is the bare body shell and the odometer. Everything you can unbolt has been swapped with performance parts, jdm parts or better stock parts from other subarus. Is that modified enough? It's great daily driver never a problem.
Just don't do stupid stuff that's annoying on the street, like super stiff coilovers, loud fartcan or any of that hellaflush garbage. Instead do nice matched strut/spring combos, a catted stealthback with a stock muffler and sticky stock sized tires. |

2011 WRX - 29,000 miles
Built Motor Built Tranny 20G XTR - 27psi - E85 Full Bolt On's 462WHP / 492WTQ My only car. Daily driven. Every day. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2078765 Bought it totally stock 2 years ago. Had no intention of modding it at all. Have never worked on a car before this one. Piece by piece it has become what it is today. All work has been done in my garage. I did not build the short block or assemble the tranny, but I've had a hand in everything else. All bolt on's and tranny removal done by me. Helped with swapping the motor. The motor went out a few months after putting on the new turbo. I already had a short block ready so I was only down for a week or two. Then the tranny went out 6 months later (more boost and 4 puck clutch). Car was down for close to a month getting this all sorted out. It's my only car, and I drive it every day, so this was not convenient, lol. I borrowed vehicles while mine was down. If you're going to modify the car, then you need to have a back up plan or money in the bank. Things do break. You need to have a way to get around, and you also need to have the resources to put the pieces back together, or you'll just end up selling it and taking a huge loss on all the work you already have into it. So far it's been a fun ride. Some up's and down's, but I really like how the car has come along. I drive it to work every day and pick my daughter up in it on the way home. It hasn't had any daily drive-ability issues other than the two big ones (motor and tranny). I never thought I'd have a car that was as quick as this one, but I really like it, and I'm always wanting more |

Nothing too crazy,
08 wrx, mitsu 20g turbo, injectors, fuel pump and rail, headers to tail pipe all done, light weight pulley, few more all on factory block and tranny (stage 2 clutch) 91 octane hydro tuned, going on 5k miles without one issue. 320 whp 398 fpt 17 lbs boost. Tuned very safe (personal choice) if I choose to purchase and front mount, tuner guarantees over 360 whp 420 fpt.. |

I've had a vf34 set up on my car for over 90k miles with no issues or maintenance that's any different than a stock car. Well, 3rd gear broke but that may have happened with a stock turbo too. I've done a good amount of suspension work, put on 06 WRX brakes, track and autox the car. I don't consider my car necessarily heavily modified. From someone driving a bone stock WRX it probably sure is, but someone with a forged internals, huge turbo, coil overs, roll cage, DOT tires, meth tuned STI would see it differently. Why don't you tell us your plans for the car and people with those mods can give you a run down on their cars reliability. |

Define "heavily modified." From the sounds of the OP, it means anything past "stage 2."
