Default Every month or so, car does not like starting on first try.

(2008 Impreza with a manual, 25k miles, bone stock, well-maintained).

Every month or so, I'll jump in my car, turn the key to start, and have an issue. The starter motor is spinning, but it is rough (I feel a little more vibration than I should). It almost sound/feels like it is 'missing', and stuttering a bit. I'll stop, wait a second, try it again, and it will fire right up.

I wait enough time for the fuel pump to do its thing (I hear it running).

The strange thing is it does not matter if the car or weather is hot or cold. It has done it after sitting for a half-day below freezing, or if its 90 degrees outside and I just ran into a store for 30 minutes. Like I said, it can be months between this happening (never more frequent than a month, not getting worse). Hundreds of starts between issues.

The car runs 100% perfectly otherwise.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Its ur battery. Mine does the same thing I still have the original battery. I'm at about 33k miles n it does it every so often. Been to cheap to get a new one. Get ur battery tested if anything.

Everything u explained is exactly what happens to me. Got my battery checked n its not up to par. Everything else runs smooth and I do wait for the dash to run its cycle before I fire it up.

I had a similar issue but mine would start up an then slowly die off due to low rpm rang . So I took it in and spent a couple hours and it was a dirty and to much oil in my air intake and a faulty battery.

Battery makes sence, if its starting to go bad and the volts drop to low the computer could be reseting and it has to relearn. Do the rpm's drop off or completely stall when you press in the clutch after rising the rpm's above idle.
