Just got some info from my friend in Mattawan regarding the possible meet. He says he is cool with it. He wants to keep the head count to around 20 ppl and says Saturday at 6PM works. We were thinking of pitching in to buy beer and food for the grill. Steve (my friend from work) will be doing the majority of the grilling / cooking, and I'm sure carearcadaver will be also.

Let me know who's interested!

Other than that it's just a matter of taking apart a lot of stuff and putting it back together. There are a couple ways to do it. The easy way or the hard way. A couple of the bolts are a huge PITA to get to, but it's only a 2-3 hour job. You'll also need a tuner to permanently disable a list of about 20 different error codes.

Easy way--Disconnect battery; Remove intercooler; Remove the pump (pretty straightforward with just a couple bolts and wiring harnesses); remove the solenoid (PITA because it's tucked under the manifold and it's difficult to get a wrench on the bolts); Crawl under the car; Drop the exhaust manifold; remove the uppipe; remove valve from back side of the block on passenger side and install block off plate; remove valve from block on driver's side and install block off plate; Reinstall uppipe with new gaskets; Reinstall manifold with new gaskets; Reinstall intercooler; Reconnect battery.
Pros- less headache
Cons-more expensive (the manifold and uppipe gaskets will set you back like $75)

Hard way--Same as above until the crawl under the car point; Feel around on the driver's side to remove the valve and install block off plate; feel around on the passenger side behind the uppipe to remove the valve; here's where it becomes the hard way-You have to manhandle the hard-piping to the valve to get it out. You have to bend and pull, bend and pull, bend and pull until it eventually comes out. After getting that out you install the block off plate and put your intercooler back on.
Pros- cheaper because you don't have to replace all those gaskets
Cons- HUGE PITA. This is how we did mine and it was probably one of the most frustrating experiences ever. If it was up to me, I would have dropped the exhaust manifold, but the other guys helping me were too stubborn to give up since we had it half-way out already.

I know I forgot steps, but depending on when you do this, I can make a trip down to k-zoo to help out.
Thanks for that write up! If I leave all the hoses and stuff in place can I get in there and put on the block off plates? See s like the biggest pain is trying to man handle it all out of the engine bay.

Long story short, no. The hard piping has to come out. I'll see if I can track down the box with all the junk that came out when I pulled the air pump and get a picture to give you an idea of just how much useless crap has to come out.

Air pump and hose

Solenoids/pumps

*As a note, these are both located more or less on the driver's side of the block in spite of one feeding the passenger's side

Hard piping
Driver's side

Passenger side

A little different angle to give you an idea of how much bending and manhandling is required on this dumb thing

The best part is that it only runs for 30-90 seconds on cold starts. It pumps air into the exhaust stream to dilute emissions and trick the O2 sensor into thinking it's running lean and dump more fuel to warm the car/cats quicker. As soon as it hits a certain temperature, the pump becomes ten pounds of useless crap.

Had a great time last night! Awesome food too. We should do that again sometime.

Here is a photo I took off my Instagram. My bad on cutting the GT out! The original photo had it in there but Instagram cropped it.

Anyone going down to Mishawaka this weekend for that Anonymous Fitment meet? I'll be going to trade a set of wheels and hang out and wanted to see if people wanted to caravan down.
