anyone else have problems with plasti-dipped wheels pulling away from the edge of the wheel? It only happens when i am on the interstate for awhile or do some a couple high speed rips in the car. I'll get out and it looks like i have a polished lip on my wheel, as the dip pulled away from the lip. I've re-done them like 4 times, getting tired of taking the wheels off the car. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, take my time, clean prep the wheels, allow drying between coats.....

I've heard of other people having similar issues, but more towards the inside spokes. You're going too fast fo da dip! Slow down!

The problem is you're using plasti dip! It's not meant to stick like that, so the centripetal and centrifugal force is pulling it away from the wheels the faster you go. If you use an actual primer underneath that might help since thye ten to have adhesive qualities by definition, but this is the reason I h8 this thread (no disrespect).

I have had my rims plasti dipped for the last 2 months. I have not run across any, I repeat ANY problems with this product. The rims wasn't even the first thing I dipped. I plasti dipped my badges on my trunk and its holding on strong. One gentleman said something about centripetal and centrifugal forces blah blah blah. You know what buddy? I will just spray another coat or 2 of plasti dip for the dip that came off the rim. Simple as that.

If you dont like the product, have your doubts or your just a hater, this thread is NOT for you obviously. If you nothing to positively contribute to the thread, then, please, do not post up. No body cares what you think. I dont. Its my car and I can do what i want to it. If you dont agree with that, okay that is fine. Your "knowledge" will fall on deaf ears. I will ignore you. You obviously have no life because you nothing better to do that to be a hater. You wouldn't say that in anyone's face. If you did, it would make no difference anyways. Me and the members who like this product, would do what we want anyways.

Why should anyone conform to the norm? Oh because YOU didnt do it, is that why? Eff that. I am not a follower but if I was, I would not follow you.

Absolutely, but everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. right?

Anyway, I dipped my rims about a month ago and as of now they LOOK Great...so far..
yes there are some areas that have issues..but primarily it's because I did not spray enough coats..like the inner portions lip and spokes of the rims. BTW I did not remove the rims from the car....I sprayed it like FONZI!!LOL

What color did you do it. And what prep and paint had to be done?

Just clean it and spray 4-5 light coats. I also did the bottom of my rear bumper. It's been on for over a year now.

Nope and I just wiped the parts clean with a little soap, water, and a microfiber towel to remove any dirt before spraying.

I know it's weird (especially when I worked at a body shop) and you'd would normally spend like 2 hours prepping for those 3 pieces and then another few hours to prime, paint, clear. But, with Plasti-Dip I finished it all in 1 hour. It requires minimal prep, dries quickly, and is not permanent.

I've been thinking of doing that same bumper section, did you take your bumper off or did you just lay on the ground and spray up?

Plasti Dip is like a tattoo. But instead its, "Once you Plasti Dip one part, you Plasti Dip even more!" I did my trunk badges first. Then I did the rims. Then I plasti dipped my hood scoop. I plan on plasti dipping the roof. Next year I want to plasti dip the car a totally different color. This stuff is too much fun. Here is the latest pic of my wagon taken this past weekend.

Yea, just make sure you peel the tape while the dip is still wet! Otherwise, it'll rip and won't leave a sharp line.

Decided to go with green as my accent color. just got done dipping my hella horns and almost my rims, just need to clear coat them(any tips on using the glossifier?)

Side note: This lovely texas weather did mess up one rim, I started spraying when it was 73 outside and over night it got to the mid 30s, this rapid change in temp happend while the plasti dip was still curing so the inside of one spoke lifted up, im trying to patch it but might redo that rim sunday.

Horns: im not really fond of the texture on these but they are behind the grill so im not too worried, if you want a smooth coat id recommend heating up the cans and spraying about 7-8 coats. thats what i did with my rims and they are flat green, no texture.

Rims (White undercoat) :

Rims (matte Blaze Green):

The black on the front bumper is also dipped

How did you mask off your horns exactly?
