Cuz ported sounds like ass. But seriously you need to design a much more complicated enclosure that would have been very hard to incorporate into the aesthetic he was going for. The speaker also needs to have the t/s parameters that show it will work in a ported box and perhaps his didn't. You can't just slap any speaker in a ported box and expect it to work well.

In a car can't recall any ported setups that sounded acoustically correct. If you are a bass junkie then fine, but most ported setups are just causing a massive hump around 30hz. In a car, sealed, A-periodic or IB is the way to go imo.

Didn't go ported because the Kicker solobarics that I have are meant for a small sealed enclosure. only .88 cu/ft

I understand no rush, could be spring for all I care, but lets try to make it happen. If you've never used an Rta before it will be an eye opener for you. It would give me an excuse to have one of my competitors show up in his car as well, I need to see him again soon, its been a while since we got together.

I understand you can't just slap something in a ported box and call it done, the boxes have to be tuned to the sub and blah blah blah. I'm currently piecing together stuff to build an 8 with a passive radiator so I don't have to build a box with 3 or 4 turns to build a port long enough to tune down to 32 herts. I was just asking why, because the solar barics are known for being notoriously low frequency oriented anyways.

It's been a while, but I've added another piece to my trunk. A light up WRX logo for the floor.

More pics of whole trunk here..
