Default Exhaust note blues

Just voicing my frustration while looking for an exhaust....

I had to trade in my 05 WRB WRX for a 13' WRX 5 door in SWP due to a spun bearing...had an N1 street CB on the old girl, which was a little too quiet for me.

I've taken the stock muffler off on the new ride, and it sounds a little too raspy to just have my local exhaust shop fab up a tail pipe minus the 50lb muffler for it.

My only source of input is searching through the YouTube videos with the best sound quality to see which exhaust can compare to my lost love. 50+ later and I'm still not sure what I want. Seems like these new 2.5's don't like not having some kind of muffler or resonator without sounding like crap. My two main thoughts are the Q300 or a Nameless axle back. I really want to keep the quad tip look, since the new girl has the big silver cutouts.

Sorry guys, just kinda missing the old blob-eye taken before her time and seeing if anyone can relate.

The internet isn't the best place to listen to exhaust tones to make a high dollar decision. There is no substitute for in person. You live in California so cats are a must, yes?

Oh I'd love it if I could get some in person listening done, but not many people have these cars around here that I just see driving around as opposed to Chevy trucks. Cats aren't necessarily a must...I don't have to smog it for something like 3 years, an I'm going to keep my stock exhaust. Cops don't really write exhaust tickets around here either unless you're doing something stupid. Then it gets tacked on top of a bunch of other tickets.

I wouldn't say Bleed, I have Q300 Turboback and no Cats and it sounds so good. No drone and not extremely loud when not on it. But when I am....holy hell (jizz-in-my-pants). Hope that helps!

No drone with the Q300??? Yeah, maybe if you have the sedan . Q300 on the hatchback drones like a mofo! Especially in lower, cruising RPMs.

I don't know about the 5 door but the Nameless Axle Back sounds really good on the sedan.

i have the nameless on my sedan and i can tell you that videos on youtube don't do it justice, it sounds amazing...it is nice and smooth and quiet at idle, but when you go WOT it roars like a v8 with the sexy subie rumble...it is gorgeous.

I wish they made the N1 race kit in a quad tip setup

Speaking of this, just out of curiosity, is there any baffling in the N1 can? Or does it just act like a resonator? I don't have my old one any more, so I can't peek inside. If there isn't really anything in there, maybe I can just buy a mid pipe and kinda build my own thing.

OP, If your looking for loud with great tone then Nameless is what you want.

Their exhaust sounds great, its just a bit loud for my tastes .... But sounds like volume is no issue for you.

Any significant advantage to swapping my midpipe if I'm not planning to get crazy with this car? As in it'll probably stay pretty close to stock until the warranty is up.

If you just take the muffler off a 5 door it sounds good until the turbo kicks in then you dont even hear the engine. It sounds cool and all but I want to hear the engine.

How does Nameless do it with the muffler delete? or does it sound like turbo past 4k?

the muffler delete sounds amazing, even with my COBB intake which is supposedly one of the loudest ones. i cna still easily hear the exhaust over the sound of the turbo.. this thing is loud at WOT.

The turbo in these newer WRXs is so loud! My 05 didn't sound like that...not even close.

I have a 12 wrx hatch and have been through a few setups.
Stock downpipe with magnaflow catback (got good deal)
Sounded good just off idle-deep and rumbling. High rpm was quiet and high pitched.hated this exhaust.

Stock down pipe with invidia n1 street
Sounded like a classic modded Subaru. Fairly loud but not ear bleeding. Probably as loud as you could go on a daily driver.

Nameless catless downpipe with n1
Raspy, very loud, minor drone, not very deep, sounded good till waste gate opened them raspy and mean. Not very rumbly.

Turbo xs catted Down pipe with n1 street
(Bought to quiet down and rumble more)
Deep loud but easy to tolerate. Lots of rumble. Classic Subaru sound.

Last wrx was a 06 with 18g and perrin twin tip and helix catted downpipe.

Well hell, that's exactly the kind of description I needed! I feel like I'll end up down a similar road...just gotta try stuff until I get what I'm looking for. I'd really like to keep the quad tip look because of the silver trim on my exhaust cutouts. A single would just look weird, IMO.

Also, it sounds like I'm going to need a downpipe if I want my old subie sound back.

N1 doesn't look bad. Not great though. Need to see in person. I thought I would hate it. Usually dont like canisters. However it's small and tucked up out of way. Rumbles even without downpipe

Another vote for the Nameless. I have the Axle Back Muffler Delete on mine and LOVE it!!! However, I am in a Sedan.

Has anyone managed to deepen the sound of the nameless divorced wastegate catless downpipe or make it more Subaru sounding? I am hoping to go back to it possibly with a mad dad whisper.

I also had to replace my beloved 2005 STI (Cobb tbe). My 2011 STI has a Q300 TBE....I think it is too loud! Great at idle but once you're past 3k it gets really loud.....sounds like a Harley with straight pipes. I've heard a Greddy TBE and it sounds much more like the old GD w/Cobb TBE.
