Lol the chips will burn a hole in your wallet that's about it. The basic intake header exhaust mods will make it sound cooler, but for the money is 5-10 whp really worth it? I would leave it stock and save for a platform that responds better to mods like a wrx. You aren't going to get much more then added noise modifying the NA motor . Been there done that. I dumped too much money into an se-r Sentra (I/h/e) and it was noticeably quicker after basic mods... But way too much money for 12 hp. I put the same amount of money into my current subie, but gained about 30-40 hp since turbo motors actually respond to mods more

Chips on ebay will not work. You can spend $1000 or more on a full headerback exhaust for 5-10HP. Not worth it.

If you're sticking NA, it's better off to do a 2.5 engine swap. They can be had for relatively cheap and you'll be getting a +30 HP gain right off the bat before an exhaust or cams if you go that far.

Or you can sell the car and buy something faster that's always the best option if you have the $$$

Frankenmotor. Or sell it and buy a WRX.

Yea really the only thing besides turbos, superchargers, or swaps that's going to give you any noticeable gain is reground cams, like Deltas. However, I have heard that the power gain is not as noticeable on EJ22s as it is on EJ25s. I'm not sure if that's true; I, for one, love the 1500 regrinds on my EJ25. For your car, an EJ25 swap with reground cams is really the best for your money...but given that you're asking about eBay chips, I'm guessing engine swaps are a bit beyond you. I don't mean to offend you, but it's what it is.

I have a EJ22T in my SS and i think its not to shabby, i upped the boost a tad, ground the engine really well, made a custom intake, and exhaust and i think its quite responsive.... but for the money just get a WRX if you want cheap power.... and blown trannys lol!

I have some advice here. I have a 96 impreza outback with the ej22 with 201,700 miles or so on it right now and it has a decent exhaust on it which sounds great! But, I need more power as well maybe 40 - 50 hp. What I want to do is do a hybrid, ej25 short block and 98 impreza 2.2 heads and intake manifold then get some delta 220 cams for the heads. It already has a lighter flywheel which is nice. I am expecting around 175-180 hp or so with an updated exhaust which will be about what I need for a while for my wagon. Another thing is tranny swaps to like a 99-2001 rs 4.11 tranny. Our cars have the 3.9 but the 4.11 final drive will have just a bit more torqyness than the 3.9.

So, you really have to think about the money to added power thing and decide if these few things will get you what you want for now or saving money for a stock wrx and then going from there.

I have a 98 impreza L 2.2 sedan that has some newly rebuilt heads and the delta 230 grind cams which is really similar to the delta 2000's for the ej25 NA motors and the car definitely has some more power and get up and go starting at 3k rpms up to 6k which would go to 7k if it wasn't for the fuel cutoff.

Cams on these motors with a better header, one high flow cat and a none restrictive exhaust yields some gains.

The chips were just a curious question and the engine swap is a possibility i was just trying to save some cash and didnt want to swap and everything if it was possible to get power from what i already have no offence taken
