Default smoke?

99 obs ej22 never smoked but as soon as i installed my axle back exhaust it started smoking

Probably a coating or gasket then. Nothing to worry about anymore.

i did replace the gasket between the midpipe and cats?? was that it

I wouldn't worry about it, especially if it didn't smell like burning oil or coolant. I remember when I installed my axleback, it smelled pretty awful for a few days but I don't think mine ever smoked. If it's not smoking anymore, you're fine.
