I'm at 400 under msrp... on the ft86club.com forums, there are a few people that have negotiated invoice (usually before the dealer realized there would be limited quantities). Now though, everyone is getting MSRP or MSRP +

Walkers. They won't do any more under MSRP though.

Chaplins is doing MSRP + 1-3k, Carters is doing MSRP.

Allotments:

Walkers: 16 (2 pre orders so far)
Chaplins: 18 (unknown number of pre-orders, at least 2)
Carter: 20 (14 pre orders)

Car allotments are spread out across a 7 month period for this calendar year from may-nov, so if you have pre-order number 8 out of 16, you'll be sometime end of summer. Thankfully, most of the Washington dealers are getting very large allotments overall, because of the huge subie following in this area. (allotments were decided by past WRX and STI sales- lots of other dealerships are only getting 1 or 2 allotted, or even none).

they are saying 540 BRZs a month for the whole US, and there are 600 dealers. The big dealers might get 2-3 a month, so the little dealers will get 0-1.

If the BRZ was a twin turbo V6 making 450+ HP im sure it would have the same impact.

Paying extra to fill wonts and desires instead of just waiting a month or two.

What would waiting a month or two do if the BRZ's aren't guaranteed to stay on the floor if they're not pre-ordered? If Subaru wasn't saying that the quantities would be limited along with this car's high-anticipation, I could maybe see your point.

Once the dust has settled and the 1st allocation has been delivered and off the lots, greedy dealers will settle for MSRP, and in many cases, less than MSRP, to make quota, after the 1st month or so of sales.

The same thing happened with the WRX. There were dealers trying to sell them above MSRP; 'rare car!' 'Only getting 2-3!' After the 1st month or so, bam. Invoice or just over was the price of the car. And quite honestly? I bet they sell more BRZs than they did WRXs in 2001 for the June-Dec timeframe. Why? It fits Subarus US sales goals to sell more cars outside the snowbelt. This is the very car to appeal to those that don't see snow.

The BRZ is not going to be some rare breed like the Integra Type-R, they'll make as many as needed to fill demand. They've already claimed to up production. (1997, 1998, there were only about 1300 ITRs made, then 1300 in '00 and 1100 in '01.) They will make 2-3x more than those, at least.

Nah, KC. I get all that. I guess I was asking, "Wait a month or two from WHEN?" A month or two from now they'll still be selling like hotcakes. It sounds like you're saying they should wait to see what's left on the lots just before 2014 BRZ arrive or just wait for the 2014 BRZ themselves? Truth?

How much do you guys expect these cars to depreciate in 2-3 years -- is 30-50% a good estimate?

Subaru's tend to keep their resale value. Can't find the exact news article, but time will tell.

I wouldn't expect them to depreciate much. Subarus don't tend to. My 04 WRX was 25 OTD new and when I totalled it 3 years and 36k later the ins. co. gave me 21 so....

30-50% in only 2-3 years? No way. We leased a 2008 Impreza 2.5i Premium for 42 months, car was $21.9k. After the 42 month term, we got $16.9k on Craigslist within 5 days of posting it.

Thanks guys. I know Subarus retain their value but thought maybe the similarities to the Toyota/Scion and the RWD aspect may separate it from the trend. Like you say, time will tell.

Maybe 20% depreciation in 2-3 years is more realistic then.

Or if I can't stop obsessing maybe I'll just blow my diligently cultivated 3.2 Carrera fund on a new BRZ, LORD I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF!

I think the FR-S will definitely be the resale leader of Scion, especially since all other Scion's are just lame reinterpretation of FWD Toyotas
