Default Serious Debt Question:

About $45,000 in debt for student loans.... Asking for suggestions/ help in regards how to pay this off quickly rather than do the 30 year time span.

Have been paying for a few years now- however it looks like no dent has been put into them.

I do have a car loan- however will probably close my old 401k, which was rolled over to a Roth IRA years ago and get that taken care of. It isn't really accruing anything where it's at now, and I'm not worried about the 23% penalty for withdrawing. I'd rather do that then have the debt.

I don't waste my $ on ****. I only use it for expenses that are necessary:

Gas
Food (*IF* I do go out to eat, which is rarely)
Car Insurance
Car Payment
Student Loans
Cellphone
And random gym supplies (about or less than $100/ month- but that's not every month)

I do NOT have any credit card debt.

I'd really like to hear how quickly I can get rid of this. I was hoping/ shooting for 2-3 years TOPS.

And, I did search "debt" to see if any threads were open, however the last one was from 2005. Times have changed

Sell the car, buy a bike.

Or at least just get a beater car for awhile.

You can start by getting rid of your premium gas guzzling econobox.

Is this a regular question about serious debt, or a serious question about regular debt?

Kinda hard to know how quickly you can pay it down without knowing after your monthly expenses how much money you have left over. I mean if you are basically living paycheck to paycheck you can't pay it down in 3 years. But if you have lots of extra money each month and a 3-6 month emergency fund, 100% of your excess cash should probably go to paying it down. Details are important.

Also, how do you have a car loan on a 7 year old car?

This- was contemplating it, however, AWD would be great for winter traveling to work (its about 35 miles each way)

I know OT's great at mocking, ridiculing, tormenting, and being upfront/ honest/ helpful at times.

Can we try to do the helpful part this time around?

Whats the rate on the student loans?

More than likely it's pretty cheap.

What's the APR on your student loans? I think you should consider re-allocating your IRA/401k, instead of cashing out. Makes much, much more sense long term than paying off student loans...

Well- I'd use the Roth $ to pay off car- not student loans.

My loan rates range from 5-9%
