How do you like CM10? Hasn't been convincing enough for me for the N7.

Only reason I went to CM was because 4.2.1 gave me terrible battery life on a clean factory image flash. Thought it might have been due to an app I installed but another clean factory image flash with only the factory apps yielded the same abysmal battery life.

Rooted stock is fantastic on the N7 wifi. All it needs is PIE controls.

Mine came in the mail today. It's compact, looks good and is a cool technology, but $60 is definitely too much for what you get. The difference between unplugging a cord and just lifting the device off the orb is about 2 seconds difference. Once this costs $20-30, then I think it'd be worth purchasing. I suppose the one exception would be if you are up and down from your desk frequently and need a truly quick release solution (my wife needs this, I don't).

I think where this technology will really take off and become worth spending a little more is when it starts getting implemented into the furniture, counters and car dashes. The wiring would then be hidden and the feeling of true wireless charging will take hold, as opposed to this orb which still has an exposed wire to the wall.

For those wondering. The orb uses a sticky rubber to grab and hold on to the phone. Holding the phone close, the orb doesn't grab at it, so magnets are not involved in holding the device in place.

I have a naked phone with official bumper and as expected have no issues charging or the phone holding in place.
My wife has a
Diztronic TPU caseDiztronic TPU case
and it too holds to the orb and charges just fine. I haven't yet tested to see if they both charge at the same rate seeing how one has a case and the other doesn't, but I'd expect it'd be similar.

The AOKP devs pointed towards march for a 4.2.2 Miliestone release which is pretty exciting. because I'm still running their 4.1 M1.

Which should tide me nicely over for a Motorola X...

Walmart and a few other online places (Newegg) among them have cheap tablets capable of angry bird play.

I played with a few store demos of the very cheap tablets. screen sensitivity sucks.

Walmart online sells the galaxy tab 2 7" as a refurb for $150. its not an n7 but for 150 its worth it IMHO.

It's not just convenience, it's the fact that cords and the micro port on the phone are common points of failure. I'd actually like to have wireless charging in my car more than anywhere.

hey all. so we got an N7. it's pretty cool so far. I don't spend a ton of time with seeing i still use my phone or computer for the same things. I have a question about what it takes to get Skype set up for video chat or whatever. I had it installed and it seems like the other device has to have a number. But, what if it's not a phone? do you have to get a google phone # or whatever? not sure how it works...any help?

You just need to get another Skype account for that device. You would call the user not a number in that case.

so when you install it does it get it's own number or how do you "call" a user just add it as a contact? so it's like "call xxxxx@gmail" or whatever?

Just set up a second Skype account. In your Skype contacts, you then add that username and then you can call back and forth.

So after a few days of Nexus 4 i'm loving it. the only thing I really, really miss is having lock screen notifications for SMS and e-mail. Is this doable? I haven't rooted or anything yet. I was hoping to learn the OS better before I start delving into that stuff.

One more thing, does anyone know how I can purchase an additional charger, exactly like the one that came with it? The Play Store has additional N7 chargers, and the wireless orb, but that's it.

Thanks!

I'd prefer OEM if possible. I worry about aftermarket chargers charging my phone too slow/fast/not preventing overcharging. But it really doesn't look like Google or LG sells this exact one.

The cable is just a plain USB to Micro USB cable. Nothing special about it. The adapter that connects to a walljack can be of almost any type. The cheap ones will only pull around 500mah so it'll charge at the same speed as it does off a USB port. Most of the ones that you get with the phones though are a bit nicer and will charge at an increased rate, often around 800-900mah.

the N7 ones will work. They're both 5v output with N4 charger being 1.2A and N7 charger being 2A. The N7 charger may actually charge slightly faster. I like the small size of the N4 one though. You can always just find something cheap on Amazon/Ebay that fit those specs from a reputable manufacturer. Usually I recommend Monoprice for cables (I got an extra 6' usb one), I don't know if they have wall charger though.

So my new buttons *argh* with the N4. It seems if the power button gets held down while the phone is locked, it will happy go about powering off.

Is there a way to disable this?
