Default obd ii port location on 2012+ Impreza?

I was poking around under the steering column this morning and didn't see it. Where are they hiding it these days?

The Impreza Service Manual makes this challenging. If I found the right thing, then Subaru doesn't call it an OBD-II port. They call it a "data link connector", which they suggest for connecting a PC with Subaru Select Monitor software installed. Between the PC and the car's "data link connector", they suggest using a Subaru Diagnostic Interface (SDI).

Anyway, you will find the data link connector "in the lower portion of the instrument panel (on the driver's side)."

It's behind the hood release lever. Use a flashlight, you'll find it no problem.

what makes it a little tough to spot is that it's all black with all black behind it. blends right in!
