I have a 2013 sport hatch impreza (same as 2012). Why in the world does subaru run the a/c compressor sooo much. When I start the car its running, even if its 1 degree Celcius outside, it stays running until the car interior has thoroughly warmed up, whether the ventilation is set to floor, panel, or mix it doesn't matter. Anytime you put it on defrst the a/c runs. Why ?
This climate control system is the cars achilles heel. I love the car so much, but this is a deal breaker for me, I have to find a way to fix this issue or I'm changing the car. And the heat range sucks. If you set it 31.5 C and run low fan speed its sufficient on a cold morning, but if you go one click higher on the temperature dial it switched to "hi" and you're burning it gets so hot. Any suggestions?

Defrost will force the A/C compressor on in order to dry out the interior.
31.5C is 89F. Do you really want your interior this hot? The next time you're on a long drive, set the temperature to what you find comfortable and leave it there. Cranking the knob on a cold start defeats the purpose of automatic climate control. The system does its best to bring the interior to where you want it based on available engine heat. The fastest way to warm up the interior is to drive the car. |

ac will turn on whenever the setting is defrost or floor/defrost whether it is manual or auto climate control.
It does this to dry out the air, because A/C is more than for just cooling, it also helps disperse fogging of the windows. If you want the AC off, turn off the defrost setting. |
