I'm definitely glad I've gone back to MT with the Subie, might not be as fun to drive as my buddy's hooked up STI, but I am loving driving manual again even with NoVa traffic sucking hard every day!

What rpm's does everyone shift at? I feel like if i shift at 3k it takes too long for the revs to fall to make smooth shifts. Ive been shifting at 2500 rpms and have nice smooth crisp shifts.

Interesting, I was shifting 2800-3000 the first week I had it but I always felt my rpms were dropping too far and I had no acceleration immediately after shifting. Been trying out shifts at around 3500 and it's going well so far.

This is fine for leisurely acceleration, but if you need brisk acceleration, you're going to need to wind it up above 4k RPM.

Most of my driving has been leisurely with this car . The engine does sound great though when above 4k.

I find the acceleration to be more than adequate if I first downshift and get the RPMs above 4K before making my power move.

I just put in the perrin filter and it makes it sound even better when shifting around 4k. This past week has been great with the weather around 80 and the new filter. I love my car more and more each day!

Do you notice an increase in acceleration or anything else besides sound? I ask because I have a K&N high flow air filter and I am considering to swap it out for a Perrin or Cosworth one.

My first MT driving was on a full sized pickup truck. When I started driving a compact MT I def had to adjust when I shifted

I can't say that I noticed and increase in acceleration but it does seem to drive more smoothly now. I didn't have it on my car when it was 100+ degrees and the AC was on so it may just be that I don't have that drag on the engine anymore. My main reason for getting it was to have something reusable that I could get the dust out of easily since my car is sitting outside most of the time. Also the sound is only slightly louder, you really have to be around 4k to even be able to tell. The other thing I noticed when I took out the stock filter is there are actually 2 parts to it a front filter panel and a rear panel. I assume the second panel is to catch the smaller material that gets through the first but I'm not sure.

Where is the second panel located? I didn't seem to notice it when I swapped my OEM filter out.
Maybe I will just stick with my K&N, I'll just make sure I don't over oil it.

The second panel sits directly behind the first, it was almost falling out when I removed the front panel. Unless it was part of the first and it came off. I will have to take the airbox off and really look around. I will take pictures to show what it is that I saw.

I just had a quick look in my air box and prior to you mentioning it, I would of never noticed it. I'm going to leave it in there until I install my CAI/SRI.

I like the MT, clutch seems very light compared to my old 240 or spec-v. the more miles i put on, the clutch seems to be more precise. The slow throttle response bugs me more than clutch feel.

I normally up shift at 17, 30,40,and 45-50 mph unless im trying to drive slow. I have been skipping 4th a lot lately, just stretching 3rd to 50mph.

I just wish the clutch's catch point wasn't so high.

My '12 Impreza sport stick lost reverse gear last week. In was backing out of a space and something bound and then BANG, it popped out of gear and started making horrible noises in reverse. Had it towed to the dealer and they are replacing the trans. I have never dealt with a better company regarding a problem. It did take a week to decide whether it would be covered under the warranty but I can understand why. The only thing that sucks is that they gave us a loaner 2011 VW Jetta. What a tin can! I am sure that this is an isolated issue. They said that only one car has had this sort of failure here in the US. I can't wait to get our "real" car back.
Thanks Subaru.

Why did it take a week to decide if it would be covered under warranty? How many miles did you have on the car when it failed?

SOA had to dismantle the trans and send pics in and make sure that the damage wasn't due to jackassery. The car has right at 3500 miles.

Interesting. I wonder what kind of jackassery would have been required to have it not covered by the warranty....
