OMGHi2U OT BRZ/FRS/GT86 Thread

I've never made one of these threads I don't think, so its finally my turn OT :P

I haven't been active too much in the last year, but I'll posts this anyhow...

I'm selling the FF-1 next week and also going to sell my Impreza. I've had it for 10 years and it needs some regular maintenance now plus the AC blower motor is starting to go as is the radio so I just don't want to deal with it and i'll just sell it, especially since it has body damage. I can get about $2000 for it, and I'm selling my FF-1 for an undisclosed amount. Ill have about $13k-15k in cash, and can borrow another $5-10k depending on the car I go with.

Ideally I want a new car, but if its a GOOD used car I might go for that. My ideal car of course is an FRS/BRZ but its slightly out of my price range right now, I would have to empty my 401k to pull that off :| (I test drove a FR-S two days ago and OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG I do want one!)

Anyway, here are the cars I'm looking at so far:

New cars, Tier 1:

Subaru BRZ (Only if $1500 off MSRP)
Scion FRS
Ford Fiesta ST
MX-5 Club

New cars, Tier 2:

Subaru Impreza 2.0i
Mazda 3 hatch 2014
Hyundai Elantra GT 2014
Fiat 500L

Used Cars:

MINI JCW
Volvo C30
Porsche Boxster
MX-5
Subaru WRX
S2000

If I'm missing anything, let me know. My primary goal is a car thats FUN to drive (good for autocrossing, possibly track days) will last me like 5-10 years (I drive <5k miles a year so pretty much anything can do that), and has a good interior (Especially good seats and a good driving position, some of the cars on this list don't but have other redeeming features).

My daily driver (Impreza) barely gets 20mpg, so basically everything out there now is fuel efficient enough. I also don't want a HUGE car or any traditional SUV's. Practicality is partially important, but other things are more important to me. Worrying about a family in the future is not in the cards so feel free to exclude that from the list of requirements...

I say either FR-S / BRZ or PRHT Miata.

None of those stupid "we can do chintzy EuroTrash too!" turbocharged domestic ****boxes should even be considered by someone with taste.

Miata. I was also thinking about a BRZ, but didn't want to pay $30K for one. For my needs/wants, there was nothing else that fit the bill. It's pretty fun to drive and I'm getting 28 mpg somehow.

Most of the cars don't belong on the list the second you said "must be fun".

Yeah... it's real hard to consider a BRZ when you can get real similar performance and niceties along with a droptop and (subjective) better looks for cheaper.

0rb wants a PRHT Grand Touring in black so bad.

Wants new car
Wants to use it for autocross/track days
Wants it to last up to 10 years.

I got nothin.

EDIT - buy something cheap enough to fix when something breaks and the track/autocross days void your warranty.

I'm kind of in the same place but need more room. I think I've settled on a used Mazdaspeed 3

Nice car. One of the few wrong-wheel-drive cars I'd consider nice.

Don't look at the new ones, though. Because if you do, the settling for an older one will go right out the freaking window.

The new 3's look like Alfa romeo's, or something bitching, and Italian. The Skyactive 2.5l sounds awesome on paper, too.

Why FR-S but no BRZ? Suby love, son!

BTW the FF1 is sold? Congrats, I guess. Will the new owner at least come on / be on the boards to finish the thread?

Don't insult the new 3 like that. All of the new Mazdas are flat-out hot. The 6 especially. Their designers hit a freaking grand slam.

'09 or newer though, as they received a healthy bump in HP due to revised cylinder heads. As for seating, you may want to look for one with the Road and Track package, as it comes with the SRT style seats and a much firmer suspension vs. a standard RT. The only downside is the Nivomat rear suspension, which is Chrysler's version of a load leveling suspension.

Of course, it's hard to beat an SRT-4 Neon. Clean, un-abused stock examples will go for roughly $8k with under 100k miles. Add $1800 for a big turbo kit,$1k for decent coilovers, $1500 for wheels and tires, and another $1500 for misc. maintenance and you'll have a sub-3000 lb 400+WHP DD for under $15k.

The FRS/BRZ line is fun as hell, but the FRS has a **** front end. Go BRZ.

Because you put a question mark at the end, making it a question.

I made that mistake, but no way in hell am I spending that much on a front wheel drive wagon. They are pretty sweet though
