2011-12 v-limited front lip install?ront lip from someone local. Its brand new but didn't come with install instructions or hardware. I was wondering what type of bolts you guys think I should use to mount it and if someone has similar instructions they can share. I've searched but could not find anything on what to use for hardware. It looks like this one, same mounting points http://www.ebay.com/itm/170889225006 . Thanks guys

Take off the front bumper cover (be careful not to scratch it up, it's big and floppy and kind of cumbersome). Put it someplace comfortable so you can take your time working on it.
Can't say for sure about yours, but my lip used a few of the OEM plastic push clips, which allowed me to line up the lip on the bumper, and then mark all the holes that I needed to drill for all the other attachment points. I used stainless steel nuts/bolts/washers, but you could also use plastic automotive push clips (they won't ever rust). You can get all the hardware at Lowes, or at any auto parts store. Take your time and you'll figure it out. Just don't drill any holes until you're sure what you're doing. |

Thanks for the reply dale yeah the one I have uses some of the factory plastic push in supports to install and line it up. Do you remember what size bolts you ended up using for the holes you drilled?

I just installed one like this last week on my car.
The install can easily be done without taking off the front bumper, and on ramps. 1) Don't even bother with the supplied mounting hardware, throw it all away EXCEPT the four plastic push clips (2 small & 2 large), and go down to the hardware store and buy 16 stainless steel 1/4" x 1" bolts, 16 1/4" stainless steel lock nuts, and 32 stainless steel washers. I used 1" washers on the portions that do not have the metal clip on the lip...I used 1/4" washers on those, and 1" on the back side. 2) Take out the lowest stock plastic clips from the front portion of the front wheel wells (one on each side of the car), and mount the new lip to the bumper using the supplied plastic push clips (the large ones go in the holes up front/center. 3) Mark all the holes in your bumper (a second person holding the lip up tight to the bumper helps). 4) Take off the lip, and drill all the holes. 5) Mount the lip to the bumper using the supplied plastic push clips and your new stainless steel hardware...DON'T OVER TIGHTEN. |

I also did mine with the bumper on the car. I used jack stands and then put the lip on with whatever plastic clips lined up with holes. Then I used spring loaded clamps to hold the lip up to the bumper. With it clamped in place I just started drilling holes. Everything lines up great.
Just make sure you clamp it in the right spot before you start drilling. I used the smaller washer (that should have been included) because then the lip can actually pull off without ripping the entire bumper off (I've pulled the lip off a in a few spots more than one time, with larger washers I think I would have damaged the bumper). |

Yeah I didn't mean to suggest you couldn't do the work with the bumper still on the car. It's just my preference to work standing up with my work on a table in front of me, rather than on my back under the car working over my head. Certainly either way will get you to the same place.
As far as the size of the hardware, I just got the largest diameter bolt that would fit through the holes in the lip, and then drilled the same size holes in the bumper as are in the lip. They only need to be long enough to get through the lip and the bumper, with room for a washer in both ends and a nut. Again, plastics clips or stainless steel is the way to go. The screws that come with some lips (like the Bayson R referenced above) rust like mad, and if you keep the car for more than a year or two you'll likely end up replacing them. Again, just don't get in a hurry, think about what you're doing, and you'll figure it out pretty quick. |

And when I say "bolts" I meant Phillips pan head machine screws.
