As long as you connect the EBCS electrical plug in and remove all the vacuum hoses, your car won't throw any CELs related to it and run off the spring pressure in the EWG.

You won't be able to hear your EWG go off until you get the protune anyway because you can't go safely into boost without killing your engine. Idk how you'll pull that off for an entire week because it's hard to resist going WOT to hear that baby scream
Now that I'm finally on a computer today, haha. I know I would need a tune, I was just trying to hold off until I could actually make it up to ATL.

Haha. I know what you mean. I was trying to weigh whether or not I would be able to stay off boost. Mine is actually routed into the dp so I don't expect it to be crazy loud once I can get into boost anyway. I was planning on calling Eric tonight or tomorrow while I debate if I want to go ahead and install the stuff and just stick with an e-tune for a while and get some other goodies before I go for a protune.

Anyways I don't want to hijack this mans thread. Thanks for the help guys.

13koenig, just email your tuner. Most tuners can provide you a limp map to get from A to B safely with un-tuned mods

As long as your tune isn't crap, you shouldn't have any issues running on wastegate spring pressure. Just keep the EBCS connected (electrically) to avoid the CEL.

Aww that's no fun Are you doing this to pass emissions or keep the fuzz off you for being to loud?

Yea you can easily get away with an e-tune for now. Maybe if/when you get bigger injectors you should get the protune. Don't worry about hijacking man, just glad we could help

K well I got bored so I forced my little sister to help me capture the EWG sound better. Don't mind the few shifts I miss, I'm still half asleep

P.S. Since I installed the EWG, I've been getting more attention from my neighbors. Just wish it wasn't in the form of noise complaints hahahah.

So what's your little sisters reaction to this when she's in the car and you get on it?

At first, she was scared of it because it's really loud. Now she tells me to floor it past people that are walking or riding their bikes so she can see how scared they get, so I'll assume she loves it. I feel bad though... I floored it past a group of highschool girls she knows and one girl got so scared, she sprinted into a parking lot while flailing her arms and screaming bloody murder

Here's a crappy video of my car. Grimmspeed up with tial 38mm. I'm running the HOA EBCS with a Hallman Pro MBC hybrid setup. I love it! Instant boost with the TD04. Only issue I have had is hitting fuel cut when the temperature drops or if I mash on it from a low rpm. I guess this is an issue with the hybrid setup where the mbc is doing most of the work and the ebcs is only really there for overboosting or controlling at false boost.

Running no boost controller and using nothing more than wastegate pressure is absolutely fine, regardless of your tune. Just limiting yourself to how much boost you'll make, that's all.

Thanks for the video updates. I'm still not sure if I like the sound of the EWG. I love the benefits it brings but figured it would have a more raw sound such as a electronic exhaust cutout some people run. I may just have to see if there is someone local I can meet up with and ride along to really hear it. I feel YouTube doesn't do it justice.

I can tell you that an EWG is loud as hell in person and it makes those v8 vettes sound like an electric-powered car. My sister recorded it with an iTouch, so all the deeper sounds are pretty much non-existant. Yesterday was the first time I floored it with my windows down and all I can say is that me and my sister are still pretty deaf from doing that I'll try to steal a friends cannon or goPro to see if I can capture the sound better, but definitely try to find someone local if you can.

EWG - External Wastegate

This replaces your IWG (internal wastegate) and helps to control boost even better. If you have the GS UP, you can either fabricate a flange on it or buy an UP with a flange already on it, then install an EWG onto it.

Here's a pic of the EWG w/ dump tube installed on a GS UP 38mm flange:

If you want to use the UP you have now, bring it to a shop and have them add a flange to it. I would suggest selling your UP and buying one with the flange already on it, such as the Grimmspeed UP w/ 38mm flange. I don't know what year or model your car is, but I bought my parts from rallysportdirect and they can answer any questions you have.

Parts you'll need/want:
1) Uppipe w/ flange (38mm or 44mm)
2) Tial EWG (38mm or 44mm)
3) aftermarket boost controller (MBC, EBCS, or both)
4) IWG bracket (to keep the IWG closed off)

I don't think you are understanding what he is saying. The "flange" isn't what is making the noise and controlling the exhaust flow. A "flange" is pipe fitting or connection. The flange is what the tial valve bolts to.

If you just get an up pipe with a flange and no valve or block off plate you will be doing more harm than good. Research before you just blindly purchase parts.

You can use the stock wastegate actuator to hold the IWG closed by tightening it a few turns and leaving the vac line off- fo freeeee.

True, but I didn't feel like saving $15 on the off chance I'd sell my vf52 soon. Whoever buys it would get pissed that the actuator wasn't releasing boost pressure

Got a question for you folks.

1. When we are talking about EBCS, are we talking about 3 port or 2 port? Aka Apexi AVC-R(all cars) or Grimmspeed EBCS (Subaru Only)?

2. Do you get EWG flutter with 0 WGDCs? Lets assume you are running spring pressure by putting 0s.

Afaik, it could still leak/partially open at higher PSIs.

1) Most of us are using the 3-port and either running interrupt or bleed mode

2) MBC or Hybrid boost control is the only way to get rid of that fluttering sound that the EBCS is famous for. I'm pretty sure you won't be running 0% WGDC at all because it's needed to fine tune your target boost.

Wow! All great info in here from the OP. I am considering going EWG + hybrid boost control as well. Did Eric do all of your tuning?

Yes he did. Just use the BCS setup on post #65 and he'll tune it so that the MBC controls boost at WOT and the EBCS controls boost at partial throttle. Do you already have a tune from him?

Thanks for the info. I'll shoot him an email. Yes I had his stage 2 and am currently running his stage 3 map. I love his tunes. He's a great guy and very knowledgable.
