He's amazing. I have his stage 3 as well as a few other mods, all of which he gave me a custom tune for

Just keep this in mind.. running a hybrid setup means you'll have to adjust the MBC as the temperature fluctuates. This takes all of 3 minutes at most.

Did you notice any power gains with the EWG setup? Or just better and more stable boost control? Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

One doesn't really get a power gain with this set up. I can't tell what year your car is since I'm on my phone but depending on the year your car will or will not have a cat on your up pipe. Someone may corect me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty positive 02-05 wrx's had cats on the up pipe. Anyways. With this set up you would most likely spool somewhat quicker. You might experience minimal gains in power but the main thing is how much easier boost can be controled.
On the other hand if you have a wrx between 02 and 05 replacing the up pipe would probably be a good idea since if your cat poops out it is going to take your turbo with it.
But if your'e replacing the cat I saw why not just blow the money and run a ewg set up anyway since replacing the up pipe is no fun...especially if you end up changing it twice...like I'm going to have to.

This thread was a HUGE help. Thanks OP. I'll have my set up this week and just need to find the time to install it all. Going from stage 2 on my 05 wagon to...

VF30
565cc
Grimmspeed 3 port
Grimmspeed up pipe
Tial 38mm

I'm getting pretty excited after reading all this!!

I went EWG with a Tial 38mm on my VF52 and the COBB 3 port.

I made 326whp/337wtq on 16psi on a 2011 WRX.

RacerX Front Mount
VF52
DW65c Fuel Pump
AEM Cold Air
Catless downpipe
Invidia Q300 Exhaust
Grimmspeed UpPipe
Tial 38mm
COBB 3 Port
TurboXS Bypass

Those are some pretty awesome numbers for only 16psi! What kind of dyno where you on?
And I'm glad someone else has the COBB 3 port instead of GS. Not that I have anything GS, just that I don't see many others with it as well.
How do you/your tuner like the DW65c? That's been on my list for quite a few months now.

Awesome! My tuner (Agile Auto in MD), said with my proposed setup I should be around 330 whp / 360 wtq at 21 psi on their dynapack dyno.

Not a problem. Enjoy the gains you get from replacing the stock cat in your UP and the beastly sound of your new EWG

Catless Up pipe was one of the first things I did when I got my car back in 2009. If I would have known better I would have went EWG then but I was a horrible scoob noob . I'm more excited for the EWG sound then I am to turn up the boost with the bigger snail .

Good news is you replaced the UP as soon as you got it. I hope you do know that the EWG is most likely going to have that fluttering sound when you run it with a 3-port. If you're alright with that then go nuts, but it'd only cost another $70 to run a MBC with it

Yeah I talked to guy whose gonna be tuning it (E-tune from Clark Turner) and asked him what he preferred and he said just stick with the 3 port. I think I can deal with the flutter. If it becomes an annoyance I can always switch it or run the hybrid set up. One question I do have however for anyone. I don't mean to thread jack or get off topic but does any one have any problems with the dump tube melting axle boots or causing problems anywhere for that matter? I read somewhere a loooong time ago about the dump causing problems. Not that I care cause I'm running EWG regardless but I was just curious.

I haven't read about such a thing but then again I haven't looked into it. I feel like it could happen but that is solely based on a guess. If you think it would keep you up at night you can get it plumbed into your dp like me.

It's whoever builds the dump tubes. Most will point away from that kind of stuff

Ok cool. I feel pretty confident that Grimmspeed will have a near perfect fit. I'll just have to make sure my steel braided PS line isn't near it

Grimmspeed's dump pipe pretty much shoots straight onto the downpipe, so you'll be fine. I've had mine on for 2k miles so far and no signs of scorched parts, even though I drive like a mad man

Thanks man!!! Sorry I haven't been PMing you, been super busy with school (finals). I'll definitely let you know if I need help, although I think I'm going to have Agile Auto do most of the work.

I got the black colored one just so my emission-failing EWG wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. Definitely love how purdy that purple is though

Didn't even think about the emissions aspect of it..

Oh well, isn't it hard to see from the engine bay anyway?
