I'm signed up, this will be my first AutoX event. I went to the last event to watch and ended up having a lot of fun. Although there were quite a few VIC guys it would be cool to see more of the Subaru peeps out there. If anyone is uneasy about danger to themselves or their car I wouldn't sweat it- There's nothing to run into and it's all set up really pro, but still pretty relaxed. Everyone is genuinely friendly and helpful and they seem to be more interested in having fun than being overly competitive. So c'mon guys, let's do this! If you don't want to drive, come and watch and I'm sure you will get a few ride-alongs if you ask around.

Doesn't the other club and UBCSCC collaborate to bring out the best drivers in us? Certainly was not my intention to draw attention to the them and to be honest it isn't a real secret. Just wanted to share my personal experience. The slush series is a great way to learn due to the conditions - something the other guys can't give being mostly in summer. Having both clubs here locally is the best of both worlds for us.
Good luck in vieing for #2!! Last edited by newtothescene; 03-01-2013 at 09:38 PM. |

I'm coming out to watch how this all works and I'd love to sign up for next season! I've always wanted to get into some type of racing.

We both offer similar programs, and we both are generally on friendly terms with the other, but collaborate might not be the word to use. I don't want to turn this into an us vs. them debate, because most of us are actually members in both clubs. I just thought since this was a UBC thread, i would try to keep it UBC centric.
Next event should be great. I'll likely be getting the FTD (unless it's dry out). however since I'm classed in Street Mod, the PAX is not favourable. THe car is stuck in street mod due to a few of its limited mods, but it has a long way to go to be a true Street Mod car. the cars that win on index are usually very well prepared for there class as well as having excellent drivers. If you come out, you'll wish you signed up for this race. It'll be good to meet all of you that I havent before. and search us out and ask for rides, its the best way to experience it. |

Do you have to sign some kind of waiver to get a ride from someone?

I will try my best to keep my 3rd lol
Norm: don't forget Andre, he is one event less and if he does his ave for this upcoming event, he will be right about 490 as well! highest Nigel can reach 494.909, Me 494.989, Norm 492.919 and Andre 492.964. I am guessing it depends who can reach 493 can stay on the podium lol. |

you dont need first gear, except for the first 50 ft. and in the pits.
On another notes, I will be designing half of the course this weekend. Nigel will design the other half. We'll graft them together like a bad science project ![]() |

Looking forward to the concoction! Don't make it too nasty as I usually guarantee that I will miss at least one cone on my first run!

I'm going to try to make it different.
If you're worried about missing cones, i recommend getting their early so you can walk the course as many times as you can (5 times or more if u have to). avoid chatting with friends during the walk to concentrate. I helps to shadow a fast driver to see what their lines are. dont be afraid to ask them questions. When your turn to drive, grid your car at the back, so you can get a ride with one of the drivers at the front to get a high speed view of the course. If you are lucky to have your break first, ride along with many drivers. If you work before you drive, watch the cars lines. pay attention to where they make mistakes, what looks fast. at the end of it you should be able to close your eyes drive the whole course in your mind. |

This is only my 6th all time run - so it will come in time. After the first couple of runs my times usually drop quite a bit - 16th in Slush #4! You gave great points which is a good reminder for me. Especially the last part - need to get it memorized before! Thanks Damian Last edited by newtothescene; 03-05-2013 at 03:33 PM. |

I come at the course with a very competitive mind. In most large competitive events, you only expect 3 runs. So, there is no time for it to happen on its own. My first run needs to be 95%, then I actively have to analyze that run to consciously make improvements on the next runs.

My engine goes over 50 km/hr in first ( Not that I do this) 110/km and hour in second gear @ 6000rpm. Still no where near my 8250 rev limit muhahaha. I ran the first half of the IceX track in first gear on some of my runs. |
