Default Intake manifold rod

What is the purpose of the rod inside the middle of the intake manifold, which sits behind where the throttle body goes? Is there any harm in removing it and its plug and welding the top of the manifold shut?

That is a tube, it goes to the nipple on the other side of the manifold feeds the evap purge solenoid.

Yes it does. I cut open the front of my manifold and cut out all the iacv passages, that pipe goes into the cast and turns. Blow some compressed air through it if you don't believe me.

If you actually get your hands on a manifold it is pretty clear that there is an enclosed cavity at the top of the plenum which this "rod" and the exterior EVAP fitting both connect to.

Well I would not put it past Subaru to make randome MY and mid-MY changes. I was looking specifically at a 2007 WRX intake manifold which is the same between WRX and STI (minus the red paint) for MY2002 thorugh MY2007.
I see your profile listing MY2012 STI. Those still use the cast AL manifold but perhaps something internal has changed? Interesting. If you get a chance to look at that again to confirm, can you let us know what you find or a photo maybe....

Ha ha, that made me spit out my morning coffee. After 4 hours you should seek medical advice.

Nope, he was right. I was totally wrong... Derp. I took off my tb this morning and put my scope up in there nice and deep like. It's for evap, but if you're getting rid of evap it's completely useless.

I use that port for my map sensor. Works great because I filled the oem bpv one off and pretty much all the other ones too.
