Clearly, you've done your homework. They should fit fine, regardless of what wheel width or offset you choose. Those pieces of information are not at all important to wheel fitment.

What kind of mods do you think? I've never heard about this offset stuff before I've always been into rock crawling an have never had to worry about it

Negative camber all around, rolled rear fenders.

This is a bit of a rehash of an old thread but I've just started looking at modding my car and couldn't find the answer to my question. I have 06 WRX like the OP but I'm on stock rims and wanted to know if I could fit a 225/50R17 tire under my car without pulling fenders or excessive camber. I'd like to have a bit more side wall since as I understand it this will improve the ride quality (even at the expense of performance). I'm only using it as a DD so I'm not concerned with trying to track the thing until I can afford new rims and suspension. Or if someone has a link on how to measure tire fitment I could just break out a tape measure and figure it out myself. Thanks

No do not do that. Your ride quality will absolutely not be improved by adding too tall of tires.

Taller sidewalls can change ride quality to some extent, so I don't agree with pDubs statement that it would "absolutely not" change. However, you'd be better off looking for a different type of tire in the correct size, as that's more likely to result in a noticeable change. Just picking Bridgestone tires as an example, going from a 215/45-17 RE-11 to a 215/50-17 RE-11 might gain you a little bit more compliant ride, but going to a 215/45-17 RE760 or RE970AS would generate a bigger difference because the structure of the tire is fundamentally different. Yeah I guess I should have clarified. He said having a bigger sidewall will "improve the ride quality". If we are referring to not feeling bumps and potholes as much then yes.
To me ride quality is a lot more than smoothness of driving. I'd rather have quality all around, and hurting performance doesn't create quality in my mind at all. |

besides any change in ride quality, adding diameter will throw off your speedometer a good bit, not to mention overall gearing
if you want a better ride quality, change the type of tire instead of the size. continental dws is a nice, compliant tire for instance. |
