I guess 3 Suby shops are wrong. LOL. Remember, the tires shutter when moving them up in the air, proving its the rack, nothing else.

Do have any issues with the pump? Does it whine at all even when cold? Did YOU check all the fittings and lines or go off what the shops said

Biggest thing is that the q-rack is just a stock rack that's had new teeth ground onto the shaft and a new pinion installed, AFAIK. The whole proportional valve assembly is stock, all the material is stock, it's just slightly modified. Not sure what could go wrong identically in two racks like that.

Moreover, I know Tibor has sold a ****load of them and I've never heard of this issue before.

That said, he is really hard to get a hold of, which sucks.
i was just noting that it's interesting. it may be quite a poor reflection on the shop if you guys turn out to be right

maybe some metal filings or something didn't get cleaned out properly when making it? the tech just absent mindedly forgot to do something simple like that?

+1 the shop likely wrong.
Two setups, first a 2002 WRX steering pump, then a JDM Sti, rack is holding up, no problem.
I bought it used, Tibor offered full support, I never needed it.
And getting the air out did take a long time...

oh guys i should note when i installed mine: i had the belt jump a bit. it would grip and pressurise, then lose grip/jump/etc and i'd be back to mechanical steering. it was VERY jittery.

check your belt!

as mentioned, I have since installed a new pump. I get NO noise at all from the pump..
Not to sound redundant, but remember the tires shutter when moving them on the rack, thus proving it has nothing to do with lines, connections, etc.

AND...

under normal driving conditions (over 10mph) I do not notice it. It's when I come to a stop, or make a u-turn or straighten the wheel, when parking. Parking is when I notice it the most, such as parallel parking.

so no problems at higher RPM but fail @ low... i'm thinking the pump is dodgy. if it's a mechanical issue in the rack (they're not complicated) it should be jerking etc all the time.

Out of curiousity, what size tires are you running? Also, during the condition what happens if you raise rpm to over 1k and turn the wheel?

Not sure about shuttering on the rack part.

But for the second part.... Are you trying to turn the wheels when you're stopped? That's REALLY not a good idea. You can get away with it on a regular rack because of the huge mechanical advantage. On a Q-rack you have much less leverage and the pump has to work harder. If you're trying to crank the wheels when you're not rolling you may be overloading the pump and it just can't keep up.

That wouldn't apply though if the shuddering is identical with the wheels in the air.

I have two sets of tires now, 225, 245. Thats got ZERO to do with anything.

When I turn the wheel and it shutters on the rack, the motor is not running.

all of you keep on referring to the pump. Again, I replaced the pump. There is NOT an aftermarket option that I know of, so there is nothing to do. I installed a cooler to help this out.

If the stock pump can't handle it, than this mod sucks, and is misleading.

Parking with other people in the car is embarrassing. It is soo loud when the tires shutter, and the feeling is grose.

Check out THIS THREAD. IDK if it helps but your issue sounds similar.

someone just contacted me (texted me), and offered to take a look at the situation.

Thing is, I don't want to pay big money if it does not fix it, since I am certain the rack is defective.

I have thrown quite a bit on this already.

Just think how Yimi feels.

You could run a STi pump. The fact that it doesn't do it at higher RPM and only when stopped leads all of us to believe the rack is fine. If the rack were the problem it would do it all points.

I'll have my QRack installed in a few weeks. Since we have the same car and pump it will be interesting...

ya, let me know what the shop says about the install, if they did any custom or abnormal things to install the rack. It should be straight forward, like any other rack.

I'm doing it myself.
- Inner tie rods on first
- bench center the rack
- loosely install mounts without bushings to have play
- attach hard fluid lines
- attach to knuckle u joint
- install bushings and tighten brackets
- install outer tie rods
- attach to knuckle
- beer
- bleed
- beer
- drive

i did not use bushings on mine, as I used the solid ones from Qrack, but looks like you got it.

What fluid did you put in it?

What is your idle RPM? Does it do it if you hold the rpms up a bit?

I put in ATF (standard stuff for Subaru)

yes, it does it with rpms up. it has nothing to do with engine, although I have not tried it past 5000.

Again, I notice it when parking the most.

But does it do it at speed when the engine is under load?
