Default Protecting your exhaust?

So I've been contemplating buying a SR*S Type-RE catback for my 03 wagon off of eBay. Yeah yeah flame away. I was just wondering, I live in Iowa so the winters are bound to cause some rust, what have you guys done to prevent rusting of your exhaust? I've read stuff about high temp paint. Does that work well?

Routinely cleaning it certainly should help. It's not like it's gonna rust in 1 winter

I painted my exhaust at one time with high temp black paint, it looked good and held up to NH winters for a year then I sold it.

When it starts getting dirty, I soak mine with:
Meguiars Hot RimsŪ All Wheel & Tire Cleaner

Then I scrub with a scotch brite pad.

I had an SRS fart can for three years and honestly my Evo II is in rougher shape for the same number of VT and MA winters (doesn't say much, both are/were just about perfect). The hangers will rust on the SRS, but everything else, which is stainless won't. Great melon shooter for the price, I'm sure the RE will be the same deal.

Paint the muffler with high temp grill paint and polish the tip when you wash the car. Other than that, who cares? It's under the car and no one sees it, plus surface rust/corrosion isn't going to hurt it.
