Default Mount & Balance Cost??

I have a 2012 WRX and looking for winter tires. My dealer said it was $73.00 per tire to mount and balance winter tires on my stock rims. That price seems high to me, $292.00 to mount and balance 4 tires.

Anyone in the business know what average mounting and balancing cost would or should be?

I'm looking at Moda MD14 wheels and Dunlop Graspic DS3 tires but was thinking of running the Moda's with my summer tires come spring.

However i think that would mean $73.00 x 8 which is $584.00!

He also said $50.00 to swap out all four wheels and tires on the car if i bought them premounted from TireRack.

He did say i could have them shipped to the dealership if i didnt' want to mess around trying to get them there, as i'm sure they won't fit in my car if i had them shipped to my home. I thought was a nice offer.

That's way over priced. My performance shop does mount and balance for $25.00 per corner. Do yourself a favor and stop going to the dealership for stuff now and find a reliable, honest, local shop and start going there. Build a relationship with a local shop and you won't regret it.

I would also do your homework about getting new wheels before you go willy nilly buying them from Tire Rack. There are lots of things to consider when it comes to wheels. The look you are going for, size, width, offset, spoke design, tires, fender rolling/pulling, are you going to lower the car. All of these things need to be considered when purchasing wheels. Read this thread in its entirety before you buy wheels.

My local tire guy did my mount, balance and tire disposal for $60 total.

Last time I checked, Discount Tire and NTB will usually mount and balance tires for ~$20/ea. They will charge more ($12/ea iirc) if they are disposing of old tires.

I must be in the wrong business... your dealer is charging you 4 hours of labor for a 30 minute job.

You should not need the dealership to mount your TireRack wheels and tires. Jack up each corner and swap wheels and tires yourself.

Where are you located? I'll put your wheels on for half that AND hook you up with my tire guy.

Depending on the state, you may or may not have to pay a disposal fee when mounting. Some states (like RI) charge the disposal fee when buying new tires.

$25 to remove and mount tires (that I brought in) including high speed balance. This was at a Firestone. Surprisingly a lot of tire places wouldn't do it. Of ourselves if you buy the tires there, it should be free.

$60-$100 for everything all said and done is reasonable. That includes disposal (or not), new valve stems, actually putting them on the car, and all that haha.
It also depends on the size, at least depending on where you go.
If it's more than $100 for stock wheels, I would try to go somewhere else.

i asked about mounting and balancing tires that i already had...he did a FULL STOP and immediatly started asking me all sorts of stupid questions...

when i FINALLY got the guy to shut the **** up and give me a number....it was something like $124.80

i just turned around and walked out the door....ffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

went down the road to a 'local' place and got the whole thing done for $50+tax + $7.xx disposal/tire and the guy was genuinely sorry that he hadda charge me the disposal fee

I'm going to stick with stock wheel and tire size. TireRack gauranteed fitment of the Moda MD14 with Dunlop Grispic DS3 tires on the 2012 WRX.

Should i be worried they won't fit??

This is the look i'm going for, however i have the black 4 door.

You have to call around and ask. My local gas station has service station attached and they charge $70 for mounting 4 tires with balancing.

Do you have a refrigerator installed in your car or something? Why do you think that 4 wheels and tires won't fit in your wagon?

As for the original question, $73 to mount and balance is preposterous, as everyone else has said. I haven't had a need to mount tires at my new place, but at my last place the local Walmart had the best deal on mounting & balancing.

Use the dealership for warranty work on your car. When it comes to things like wheels & tires or alignments, go somewhere else.

To op, that's an outlandish number for mount and balance. Quit going to the stealership.

Hm. Weird. I work for discount. 16.00 for LIFETIME balancing, 5.00 to mount tires, 1.25 per tire disposal fee. Unlike most other places we will balance and rebalance your wheel assembly as long as you have it, as much as you want. Enjoy your one time balance and having to pay for it next time... And the next time... I don't HAVE to charge a disposal fee like they do either... Hell, if your a good customer of mine I do it all for almost free. I don't like dealing with knowitalls though... Cough cough.

EDIT: forgot to add the 5.00 to mount tires, is only if you bring your own. if you buy them from me you pay 16.00 an assembly like stated above.

I've got the 4 door sedan. Just doesn't seem like there would be enough room for 4 wheels and tires. Maybe with the seats down.

They'll fit. Just throw a sheet on the back seat. Two in the trunk, two in the back seat.

Sorry, saw the red car and thought that was yours. Missed the comment that you had the 4-door.

Regardless, 4 wheels and tires will easily fit in your sedan. 2 in the trunk, 2 in the back seat. Or all 4 in the back seat, which can be done a couple of different ways.

i have the paperwork that says i get free rebalancing for the life of the tires even though i didnt buy the tires from them....free flat repair too

i have only once or twice needed to have tires rebalanced....have only had 2 sets of tires last me more than 25k miles in the last 10 years....a
nd i dont like having ******** at shops think im just another sheeple that they are gonna fleece and treat me like i know NOTHING about tires or alignments or automotive issues
and i have only ONCE, in the last 20years or so, ran into anybody at a tire place that really knew what they were doing...other than guys I knew from the board, here, that is.

most...like 99.9% of all 'tire place' employees are toads.....just like jiffy lube employees

the discount tire guy wanted to sell me as tires

60-80 for all 4 mount and balance is probably a fair price, lower is not unheard of but would be a very good deal.
