Starter Upgrades for 03 TS black
Hi guys:
I am new to the forum today, I finished my 24hr test drive of the TS this afternoon and decided to buy. I will probably have possesion in about 1 month. I am getting the upgraded sport package ($22888) from Docksteader Volvo/Subaru, it includes: driving lights rear spoiler Mags (all for $900) and I am also getting the roof rack....(@$500) my question is........... What other upgrades can I get ie. exhaust, that are not to expensive and would be a good place to start improving this model? Parousia?

Hey, 1st of all welcome to the club...
as for mods... it really depends what you are looking for, there's a huge variety of exhausts available depending on the type of look and sound you want... since everyone's taste is different... it's hard to say what's good for you... So if you can be a bit more specific on the stuff you are looking for it would sure help us to help you... Most questions you have the answers may be a click away... you can just search for your answer in the forums... top right in the forums menu... Sunny |

starter upgrades
Mine has not arrived yet, but I will be getting one that has never been test driven when the new freight deliveries come in.
As for upgrades, I was looking at exhaust because I like the throaty sound of the 2.5 but it still isnt a WRX and I would like it to sound a bit better. Docksteader gives 24hr testdrives on all the models that they carry (Subaru and Volvo) i am pretty sure. You can talk to Robin Brinkman if you have any questions he is a great no pressure knid of guy. Now is their an upgrade that you think is #1 on the list for this car? Parousia As for wheels Robin told me that he will give me a budget and I can go and pick out at new set from down the street included in the upgrade sport package. |

Congrats man. I agree with Sunny. Mods are up to you. You can go from just all show, no go...kind of like my intentions, make it look nice but don't put too many performance mods. Or you can go take it to AutoX and get some suspension mods. Depends. My friend is trying to convince me to go away from the all show, no go look, because he says "Power and handling never go out of style while appearance always does. Look at altezzas on Civics, the combat wings, the superwhites. All those fads. But never in history has speed and handling been looked down upon". So, up to you! Congrats!

Where did you start?
When you upgraded your cars, which parts did you start on?
What kind of performance increase can I expect to get from a different exhaust, are there certain things that I should look for in an exhaust? thanks again Parousia |

For modifying your car, the most common would be filter and intake, exhaust, pullies, short shifter, tires, wheels, body kits, sway bars, spark plugs, spark plug wires... that's really all I can think of unless you go turbo...
for exhaust, it's really up to you... for me... I like to have the deepest sound... my new Mangnaflow seems to satisfy me in that area... how loud of an exhaust are you interested in, also what kind of tip would you prefer? That's really what you should look into... But modifications are to each person's preferences, if you copy a person 100%, it'll be boring for both the owners, thats why we all try to think of our own special one of a kind never been done before modifications... it's cool to get one of those "Wow, that sure is special" kind of look from people... Where would my largest performance increase come from exhasut, intake, or ?.
I am not talking about spending 4k on an addition, I mean with these fairly simple mods what can I expect? Parousia |

the best "feelable" performance part is suspension area
ie; swaybar, spring, shock..... the best sound performance part is exhaust, intake IMOP |

Handling:
Best place to put your money is wheels/tires and rear swaybar in that order. Stick with something in the 17-19mm range for the swaybar. Power: Intake, then exhaust. |

I agree with AllWheelDrift. I would also place crank pulleys on the list (supposed to give 10HP increase at the crank), but it may also affect your warranty.
An ECM daughter chip (ProECM or Scoobyracing) ,will also increase acceleration, as the factory ECU limits it, but I would definitely leave this until your warranty expires. I wouldn't even consider turbo with the kit costing $3600 US (+ install costs), you might as well buy a WRX. Doug |

Power area will not let u feel any gain but sound nicer, maybe a tiny bit of different.
I know cus I have intake, exhaust and pully done. Handling: which is your best bet to put your money on, like AllWheelDrift said |

sway bar
What will the sway bar actually do?
I read that this sway bar is a stock item on the WRX, can i just buy it from Subaru? What about spark plugs and gold lead cables, will they add anything? I really dont know to much about the addons and their functions and improvments, I researched the vehicle intensly, but as far as the addons go...... As far as exhaust goes I am looking for a place to actually go and see the options and styles, where do you recommend? I want one that gives a low bassy rumble, quite but throaty. Parousia thanks again |

I have a 20mm WRX sway bar... it leads to nothing but oversteer... and accidents with my "stupidity" for not knowing my own and my car's limits...
But it's just plain fun... right now I have to run more tire pressure in the rear normally so that I can compensate for the thick bar... Sunny |
