Thanks. It's pretty straight forward once you understand my reasoning.

I didn't want to run coilovers because of bad experiences in the past (had Koni coilovers on my MKIV R32 and they blew in less than a year on the roads in PA), so I chose to wait for RCE to team up with Bilstein and come out with an OEM style suspension.

The suspension was the worst thing from the factory that had to be changed right away.

I didn't want to run a true cold air intake with the filter in the fender liner with how much rain we get in my area. So it was the COBB SF Intake as soon as that came out.

And running a short ram style intake eliminated the possibility of running a FMIC, so I researched and found the Process West TMIC.

Everything else has been researched using other enthusiasts as the guinea pig.

The two things I felt like my car was missing from the factory were HIDs and Navigation. So I finally did those recently. I'll post some updated pics when I get my headlights back. And I might be switching up my navi for a Pioneer AVIC-X940BT. Waiting on Pioneer for a software update on the AppRadio. My limit is June, though.

I don't have plans of making stupid horsepower, just a very fast reliable daily driver.
My plans are Stage 3 while I'm still making payments on it. Once it's paid off I might consider a built motor and Stage 4. We'll see.

My new and improved headlights compliments of LightWerkz:

Matthew sent in his headlight for a proper HID projector conversion upgrade. We set him up with the TSX projectors which were upgraded with the TSX-R lenses for maximum performance. Lights are being powered by the OEM Matsu****a Ballasts and OEM Phillips Bulbs. A Morimoto wiring harness was provided for proper installation. The factory housing were left in their original finish. The amber reflector on the side was removed. The angel eye was installed on the front of the projector bezel. Additional koito butyl rubber sealant was added for protection.

Hahaha. Nasioc bleeped out the name of the ballasts. Classic.

I hate the look of narrow bodies...... Except for this one. Very nicely done man, I'm liking the simple, thoughtful mods.

angel eyes are crack to me. never looks tacky and never gets old. i wish i got HIDs with my car, but the higher end models of WRXs just weren't worth the extra $$$$$ to me. and i don't want to put in some $30 HID aftermarket solution since i don't have the proper housing.

how much did this retro fit cost? if you don't mind me asking? website doesn't really give me much info since all the jobs it seems are custom so pricing may vary.

Thank you. When I got the car I knew it had potential to look aggressive without looking overdone. I could afford an STI at the time, but a sunroof and heated seats were only available on the WRX. People think I'm crazy for choosing a WRX over an STI for heated seats and a sunroof, but those were my priorities. Without a sunroof I just feel boxed in. And I'll never own another car without one and without heated seats.

After a little poking around I decided I liked the door moldings on the narrow bodies and no door moldings on the wide bodies. Seemed to me the narrow bodies needed the extra detail. And it's too much on the wide bodies, IMO. Makes them look a little too busy.

Narrow body hatches have an easier time looking aggressive than the narrow body sedans. I like the narrow body sedans with the STI wing.

I kept going back and fourth on the angel eyes. From the pictures LightWerkz posted, I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I don't think all of them turn out that nice and subtle looking.
Back when I got my car they didn't offer the limited package. That came out in 2010. And I still don't know if I would get the limited or not if it were offered. I don't like leather seats. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. To me, cloth heated was the best of both worlds.

The retrofit cost me a lot. I originally purchased TRS's Retrofit Quick Kit to DIY these on my own. After reading some horror stories about condensation and fogging from those who attempted the DIY on the retrofit, I decided I'd let the professionals handle it. I ended up supplying LightWerkz with most of the parts.

LightWerkz changed out the lenses and projectors to TSX parts. In the end everything I have in these headlights is about what they charge for their Stage 2 retrofit solution $1000 + $110 angel eyes = $1110. Shipping hurt me and I learned my lesson to keep every box I get in the mail.

The Limited package offered by Subaru is $1500 for leather seats and HIDs. I would get the limited package for $1500 if I could opt out of the leather seats.

I do not understand everyone's infatuation with stages...there is not stage 3 or stage 4 . After stage 2 your just adding parts.

COBB produces Stage 1 (chip) Stage 1+ (chip + intake), Stage 2 (chip & downpipe) & Stage 2+ (chip, downpipe + intake) maps.

Stage 3 is Stage 2+ and the following:
adding headers, injectors + fuel pump, usually some form of boost control, an intercooler, usually a BPV/BOV, and a new tune to handle and utilize all these additional upgrades. (Forgive me if I missed something.)

Stage 4 is Stage 3 and the following:
a bigger turbo and a new tune.

Saying you are Stage X is just easier than listing all of your mods. Now it might be different in other model years, but that's how I understand it to be true for 09+ WRX & 08+ STI. At least since I've been here.

If you're Stage 4 you've upgraded everything including a bigger turbo. If you're Stage 3, you've done everything to setup for a bigger turbo.

Also, if you use Torqued Performance tunes, he does everything in stages as well:

Stage 1: tune
Stage 2: downpipe, tune, intake (optional)
Stage 3: Stage 2, plus intercooler, ebcs, fuel pump (optional), colder plugs (optional)

There is no "set" stage, except maybe stage 1 and 2. Different manufacturers use different stages I guess.

Agreed. I know Torqued Performance uses different "stages" for their tunes.

It's also a vocabulary your pro tuner and you can share to make things a little easier. I know my tuner has done several 09+ Stage 4 pro-tuned and they know what I mean when I tell them I'll be getting protuned at Stage 3 before taking the plunge to Stage 4.

Awesome car Quak, my favorite narrow body I've seen so far on Nasioc. Where did you get those door moldings? I'd love to get a set that come prepainted. Genuinesubaruparts.com doesn't seem to list them as an accessory.

Impreza + WRX STi Body Side Molding Protection 2008-2013 ($150.63):

I got mine as a factory option when I ordered my car so I don't know the installation process.

So as part of my lighting upgrades, I decided to pull the foglights off the car and see if I could clean them up enough to spray them with Krylon yellow stained glass spray paint. Unfortunately they are pretty beat up and pitted. So I picked up a set of OEM foglight covers and tried the Krylon on them.

It isn't flawless, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

I especially like how much the foglight covers...cover. It brings the yellow tint further out than running overlays. We'll see how they hold up.

(No my car isn't that low. The bumper is currently off the car and sitting on the ground.)

Headlights are back on. Everything works great. Waiting on some new foglight bulbs before I put my bumper back on.

Lights look great man, what HID's did you get? brand? 5000k?

Lightwerks did my retrofit as well. Top quality, expensive, but worth it.

Most of the info is listed on post #29. 4300k bulbs.

Yeah, it was a pretty penny, but to me it was all worth it. I know I would've fudged it up attempting the retrofit myself. Read horror stories about fogging and moisture for those who did a shotty DIY. And LightWerkz polished them like new while they had them. Can't wait to drive at night now and really try them out.

Been driving the wife's A4 for the last two weeks. I'm ready to be back in the WRX.

Just got them on the car this morning. But with my bumper still off until tomorrow, nighttime pics won't be possible until tomorrow night.

Lol.

But seriously. Waiting on a 3000k HID kit for my foglights. Supposed to be here today and I also ordered a relay wiring harness which is supposed to be here tomorrow. I currently have the Nokya yellow bulbs but am hoping for something a little brighter. If it looks like poo I'll keep running my Nokya bulbs. Pics to follow.

Beautiful hatch! Like others have said, I've never been too fond of the narrow bodies, but yours is done right.

Lighting isn't the best and it was taken with my iPhone, but this shows my stance from the side pretty well on my winters:
