Default Oil Leak

Before I get ripped of by a shop maybe you guys can help (with a N/A 2.5 Impreza)...

For a little while I noticed a bit of smoke seeping out of the hood every now and then from oil leaking onto the exhaust (and leaving a few drops when I park). I looked around under the hood and noticed oil collecting around the oil pressure sensor and replaced it. However this didn't fix it I decided to do some more research and still drive since it wasn't super bad...enter the bigger problem.

A few days after the oil pressure sensor replace more smoking, bigger puddle and now loss of oil (4 quarts in 22 mile drive) and pressure. When looking under the hood the entire driver side is covered with fresh oil as if it was spraying from the leak (however the belts and alternator are not covered with oil).

So trying to figure out if this leak is something I can handle or if I need someone to do it, I ran some dye through and found it near the front bolts on top of the intake manifold. I know the manifold doesn't have oil through it but why am I getting the leak there? Head gasket? Cracked head?

Thanks for any help! (I'll try to post a picture if I can get one up)

Could be the head gasket. The oil passage from the block to the head is right there. Definitely get a picture. I'd also be concerned with the lack of oil pressure, hopefully you didn't kill any bearings.

Hmm I would also be interested in a picture. Would you be able to clean the engine very good to remove all of the oil residue? This way you can run the vehicle and get a better idea of where the source is.

I'd like to see a picture as this is an extreme example of why I found this forum in the first place.
