Default 02 fog light bulb replacemnt

i tried searching and haven't found much about changing the bulb, i even tried youtube... maybe i am not using the right words in my search....

i am trying to replace the fog light bulb on my 02 impreza.
i removed the headlight and can access the light, removing the burnt bulb as easy peasy...
now i am trying to get the new bulb i cannot see how the bulb fits in and my big hands are too much in the way.... i cannot see to align the bulb properly .

can i remove the plastic lining and go from below/behind? or remove the light housing itself?

are there any tips to changing the bulb??

i eventually gave up and put the headlight back on

there isn't a fog light bulb in the headlight, are you trying to replace the parking light bulb?

the fog bulbs are really easy to change. The bulb has a [ and ) cut on the bulb, so make sure you have those aligned and the bulb isn't reversed or it will sit sideways make the retainer spring harder to re-clip.

I assume the OP is talking about reaching the h3 bulbs from the top via the opening available when the headlights are removed:

If the foglight is behind a cover, remove the cover first. From the front of the car looking at the fog light lens, you should see 3 screws. Remove them, and you should be able to pull the foglight assembly to access the bulb.

yes i have the headlight removed like in the pic ^ so i can get to the back of the foglight

the issue i am having is aligning the [ and ) getting the retainer clip re-clipped.

if feels like the [ and ) just aren't aligning right... but i cant see anything because of the little amount of space, i think my hand may be too big but i could maybe try a mirror tomorrow when its light out...

In that case, my second comment should apply; simply remove the foglight from the front, which is the easiest way.

3. You'd be amazed how easy it is for any passerby to steal them. The 4th one is for adjusting pitch (i.e. how high or low the beams point). See post #2 in this thread

lol i found that same thread after searching how to remove them.
i even searched for images of the back of the lamps so i knew which screw was the adjustment screw so i wouldn't mess with it.

so i just replaced the bulb, WOW!! it was a million times easier..
just removing those 3 screws instead of having to remove the headlight then trying to reach down to the foglight, geez sooooo much simpler.

and i got to see why i was having issues, the retaning clip spring is at a really odd angle when its un-clipped i had to put the bulb in at a 45 degree angle then slip the back of the bulb behind the clip. should'a taken a picture :/

thanks for all the help!

You're welcome. Are you better off now knowing that the foglights are so easy to steal?

IIRC the fogs on my 02 had some stupid nut on the backside that just spun. They weren't a PITA to remove but I did wonder WTF Subaru was thinking.
