Post Inaugural Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Subaru Club

Inaugural Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Subaru Club (MASC)

Time: Monday, January 22nd, 7-10 pm

Place: Mother's Federal Hill Bar and Grill, Baltimore

Directions: Take the exit for Key Highway off of I-95. The exit is just south of the Fort McHenry tunnel, so, if you're coming from the north, stay to your right through the tunnel as the exit comes up quickly. Follow Key Highway along the harbor until it intersects with Light St. Take a left onto Light Street. You will see the Cross Street Market on your right preceded by a Bank of America on the corner. Take a right at this intersection (so you're traveling down the right side of the Cross Street Market). Take a left at the next intersection. Mother's is across from Boomerang's (can't miss their big ugly sign) and their parking lot is just prior to their front door (hopefully, a section of this will be reserved for us - I'll know in the next day or so).

Cost: $8 dollars includes the nice room and some platters and sandwiches. More details about the room can be found in my other threads. Put in an extra two dollars a head for anyone who wants to get some pitchers of beer (I will confirm if those under 21 may attend I will try to make sure that you can).

Nifty little bonus: Those who attend this meeting will be considered co-founders of the MASC (still a tentative title pending group decision) and their membership cards (to be printed at a later date) will reflect this. (These same membership cards (to be provided for all members) will get us discounts on service at Subaru dealerships, as well as other benefits to be determined). If you cannot make it, let us know, make the next meeting (which will either be at Mother's or Lucien's on a date to be determined) and you will get the nifty title.

Agenda:
1) As the MASC is putting on the Oakland Acres RallyCross in conjunction with the WDCR Performance Rally Board, we need to go over details of the event. Namely, I need to know who will be attending, either to compete or help out. In particular, we will need timing and registration help. As an example, if you're competing, you could do your work/drive duties in one heat and work registration for a large portion of the rest of the day. There are many other details involved and we will go over these at the meeting.

2) Discuss the intentions of the club. If someone would like to propose some objectives / mission statements, feel free.
Things to think about:
- Purchasing, as a club, the Subaru service manuals. Who has the manuals currently signed out could be posted on our website.
- Creating above website. Perhaps some club dues could be put towards whoever creates/maintains this site.
- Planning trips
- Special guests ( I was thinking maybe we could get Subaru Canada's rally car to stop by on its way down to Cherokee Trails ProRally in Tennessee, or we could plan a trip to same)
- What clubs will we associate with? I-club? NASOC?
- etc. Bring your brains

Who's coming:
so far we have interest/commitments from the following:

-4x4x4x5
-AaronRS
-Bob O
-Bugbomb (and his peeps)
-ChimChim
-Crash and Learn
-DreaminDemon
-Duva

This one will be Monday. If that day is bad for lots of people, we can change it.

Are we still go for a meeting at Lucien's place on Saturday, Feb. 3rd? I think finding meeting dates that fit everyones schedules is nearly impossible. Perhaps we should do an online poll from the members-to-be so we can determine what day/time works for the most people. Then we can alternate meeting times for people who would be left out of the most popular meeting dates.

Also, we could post highlights from the meets on our website or on here for anyone that couldnt make it. If we had important discussions held on a website with a forum, some people wouldnt need to attend meetings.

By the way guys, I really like the shop manual idea. I could really use that thing once in a while.

I would be there, but it's kinda hard to be there when I have classes until 6:15 and it's a 4 hour drive home, and then about another hour and 15 min or so to Balt.

I'll be able to go to any meeting after May 4th, but before that it's kind of limited for me.

I like the idea of the shop manuals as well, but what are you going to do when people need them for their WRX? Just buy more?

Question

Um...I thought this Monday thing was in lieu of another meet. If we still need one in Feb that is fine. Let's figger it out Monday. I'll try to get off work so I can be there.

I'm going to be calling Mother's tonight to make our reservation. As Rob mentioned, $10 each will get us a spread of munchies and a few pitchers of beer.

Rob has listed those who intend to attend at the top of this thread. Out of the 15 there, 12 or 13 have said they can make it. I plan to order enough food for 10 people, but that's going to put me on tap for $80. If there is anyone else in the list that cannot make it, please let me know so I don't get too much food.

I'll also make sure that they block off the parking lot Monday night so we can be cool.

Although still relatively new to the area I can make it this Monday. I work in the inner harbor so Mother's is like 5 minutes away. Looking foward to meeting everyone.

Thumbs up

Robbispec can you give me directions to Mother's from say the I-83 and I-695 split. Or better yet from Black & Decker in Towson (if you know where that is). I think I can make it, but I don't really like travelling downtown Baltimore in the dark since I don't know my way around well and don't want to end up in the "interesting" parts of town after dark. I do know a few of the places in the inner harbor, however, but the directions you posted are like Greek to me.

Thanks
bob

Cool

It's so cute the way suburb-dwellers are so afraid of the big city.

O.k., looks like I got Monday nite off, so I'll be there. I might talk my wife into coming out; if we can take care of bidness 1st, I can duck out and treat her to dinner next door at Vespa.

Looking forward to this! Who's bringing the notepads?

Bob-
take I-83 South. Exit St. Paul street, going South. Crossing Pratt Street, St. PAul becomes Light Street. At the Science Center split, stay straight (not that left fork) and continue on Light Street into Federal Hill. At Cross Street, go right. You'll know it because there is a big builing that says "Cross Street Market" on it. It is real narrow. Go one block to S. Charles Street (next light) and make a left. Easy on the throttle there, hombre, 'cause that'll be the Mother's Parking lot on your left, right after the sushi bar. Turn. Park. Enter. Enjoy.

(edited for directions)

Tonight is no good for me. Wife got sick so I'm stuck changing the diapers tonight.

My only suggestion is to keep it simple and fun.
