I also recommend getting the wiring harness from that thread. It'll save you a lot of time & effort.

You could also try the cubby mod. The only issue is if you go double din there, you have to move the display.

I looked into the different options, than went for the HVAC controller. It was definitely better than the jammed cd player, and it was the same price as the OEM stereo.

kee in mind: if you have automatic climate control: the stereo and HVAC controls are one unit.

if you do the stereo mod, be sure to buy a manual HVAC head unit as well.

im thinking an afternmarket amp (between head unit and speakers) might help the ****tiness problem

burkart, the dash kit that we're talking about is the aftermarket automatic HVAC from AVO-Japan. The dash kit comes with all the parts necessary for going double-din, but you have to modify the console slightly b/c the kit is designed for right hand drive (specifically the hazard button).
The cubby mod maintains the OEM stereo/HVAC, but it adds another mounting location for aftermarket stereos in the cubby.
Unfortunately, the price actually fluctuates based on the dollar, since the prices are in Yen. When I got the HVAC unit, it was about $340. It's running about $380 now

you can buy a cleansweep from JL audio ( I have one 4sale brand new) that allows you to keep your stock deck and tune your mids and have a subs and amps. ask your local stereo shop about the JL audio Cleansweep CL441dsp, Pm if you wanna talk about it.

I've had the JL Cleansweap installed in my 2005 since I bought it. It's a great solution, I love it.
