![]() Just picked up the 2013 STi. However the BBS on this thing are Silver. I really want the old Gold back, so I am thinking of coating these ones. I am finding it really hard to find a color match in powder coating. Does anyone know how the original BBS are coated in the gold, is it anodized or something? Anyways, I either find a good powder match, or paint. If I get them stripped, how would I go about painting with the Grim speed BBS to make them look shiny and new. Is there a powder coat clear that I can have put over the top to make them really tough? I just want them to hold up....

Is powder considered to be more durable than paint?

I think I am just going to paint them. How durable are they going to be if I have them sandblasted down, prime them, paint them, and clear them? I want them to look good.

Or you could just trade me, I have gold BBS but they book funny on a white car.
Seriously though, I think paint can hold up fine, the biggest factor is the quality of the work. If they're prepped well and done with plenty of coats you should end up with a solid finish. Likewise, I have a set of wheels that are "powder coated" but they are chipped and scratched like crazy. |

![]() Well as a closure I saved all the hassle and purchased the gold ones for $660. In great shape, so hopefully I got a good deal! Thanks for the advice everyone. |

Does any one have any black or dark colored wheels for an 06 sti? I dont have fender mods or anything, and would like rims close to the stock rim sizes.

for another option, there are some special clear coats that in some cases can be stronger then powder such as PPG's durathane clear (DU1000) great for rims and marine use.
