actually - it's looking like you don't really need to jack the car up to change the oil. this guy just gets the car on some 2x4s and reaches under there.

does this seem like it's pretty doable? I'm wondering if he's reaching from the front or from the side to get to the drain...

I'm sure those would be fine, as long as they're installed on a jack stands with a deep "U" as specified earlier. The deep "U" straddles the pinch weld.

That's fine, and would be even easier with a Fumoto valve installed. But I like to crawl under my car as part of the oil change process in order to look around for leaks, and inspect hoses, suspension parts, CV boots, brake lines, and so on.

Just part of my process that I don't want to eliminate by not sliding under the car. FWIW.

I purchased a 12 pack of filters and washers from Subaruonlinarts.com. I believe the cost was around $75.

fumoto valve or quick oil drain valve which i think is what there company calls them now, but its deeefinetly the way to go. First time doing the oil change i accidentally over filled but a 1/4 quart and jus throw a small pan under it, flip the lever, let it drain for 5-10 secs, click it back. Done. I can do full oil change in 10 - 15 mins depending how long it takes to drain since its a smaller hole its draining from. but no having to replace crusher washer.
