Default How to: remove daytime running lights on a 2013 STi

Couldn't find a decent how to, so I snapped a couple of pics. Its really quite simple and I figured it out myself with the help of a few random posts.

1) Remove the two clips holding the intake scoop by unscrewing them slightly and then popping them out with your flat head. The scoop then just pulls out.

2) Next you are going to unclip the MAF sensor, and the two clips holding the airbox/ filter. At this point, split the box open and carefully remove the filter. You may want to clean or replace it while you are at this too.

3) After that, there is a bolt and a nut that needs removing. One is tucked under the left of the passenger fender, and the other down to the right of the airbox when facing it. After that, unscrew the hose clamp and work the tube off the box.

4)At this point it will be easier if you take the screw cap off the headlight on the interior. It just screws off by hand. Once that is off, unclip the tubing clipped onto the right side of the air box, and then go ahead and work the two half's of the air box out. The front half of it will have a bottle under it which you will have to work out with it. Once that is out, you can get to work on the cable.

5) You will see the two clips way down left under the light. Unclip the grey connector. Zip tie it away somewhere, i made sure to point the ends down just incase some moisture gets near it.

[b]And that's it, you are done. Just reverse steps 1-4 and you are good to go![/B

If you do this will you loose the use of your high beams?

Thanks!

I just took off the little cover on the side of the bumper, you can see the module as soon as you remove it. and no it doesn't disable the highbeams!

I used this method as well. The vent will pop off when you slide it to the rear allowing easy access to the drl connection.

DRLs run your high beam at a lower wattage, hence the resister that they run through. This lower wattage can cause the filament to burn out faster. In addition, to some they look ugly.

I disabled my DTRL on my 2013 WRX a few days back. I went in from the bottom right in front of the passenger side tire. 2x plastic clips and 1x 10mm nut ( I I recall correctly). Bend the plastic down and everything is right there. Less than 5 min job, not including jacking up the car.

I am really confussed by this "mod." But hey, everyone cant agree on everything. However, I will say nice post for those that dont (for some odd reason) like DRL...

Going to be doing this tomorrow! Nice write up.

For those not getting why someone would do this, your headlights are a "wear" item. Why run them and wear them out faster then they need to? It's actually really nice to see the DRL fad starting to go away. Many new cars I'm noticing don't have them.

Nothing like getting rid of a safety feature that increases your visibility to other drivers.

Wear and tear? The bulbs are like $10 a piece and the wear is negligible because they are run at a much lower power for DRLs.

^ Yeah, what he said. Doesn't seem like it's worth it; from a safety standpoint.

The stock DRLs in my opinion are not very appealing. Need something that stands out a bit more

sorry, but i'll take the stock DRLs over your LED faux audi kit any day. not to be mean. the stock DRLs look good IMO. swap em out for a yellow noyka bulb. had mine for 2 years and never had a problem.

That's the snorkel.. snorkus, whatever you want to call it.

Are you sure you're just not looking under the right plastic wheel well cover? It's hidden up in there.

If not, maybe the previous owner removed yours. It should be visible from the top if you open the airbox too... you'll see it through the hole.

i purchased the car brand new, and there was definitely never anything there as the bottom where the snorkus would be is sealed

does this step need to be done on the opposite side? or will unplugging the wire on the intake side disable both at once?
