Default what is my engine worth?

I know some forums have a "what's my junk worth" sub-forum, but i couldn't find one here. Please correct me if i'm mistaken.

I've got a busted 2009 2.5i ej253 from an Impreza. It had a bad rod knock and then it died (i believe the rod seperated from the crank?). It did not blow any holes in the side of the engine when it died. I have not opened the engine to inspect, so i have no idea what the internals look like.

I'd like to sell it "as is" since i just swapped in a new-to-me engine and have no use for this one, and i simply don't have time to rebuild (though it'd be fun!)

Anybody have any idea what an engine like that is worth? What's a typical "core charge" for an engine? that might give me some idea.

thanks

I would say what ever scrap maybe for the engine, worst case the cylinder is shot and same with the head.

How complete is this engine? Are the heads still good? Was it running when you took it out or totally dead?

I pay up to $50 for a complete longblock with a metal oil separator plate and oil pump intact. Usually the crank and rods are garbage, and sometimes the case and heads as well.

engine is complete, it was non running when pulled, but cranked by hand. (it died on the highway, and i never tried cranking with the starter as i didn't want to do any further damage to items i would later re-use on the engine i just put in)

havn't inspected it, so i guess i dont' know if the heads are good or not. i presume they are? but then again... engine failure can do nasty things. FWIW the moment i felt it "give" i kicked the clutch in so the wheels wouldn't spin up the engine. the engine died instantly. Could be a royal clusterf*** but i dunno.

i live near Lake Placid, NY. (Technically i live in Keene, which has a population of maybe 500? tiny.) I called the local place the works primarily on subarus (super popular in this snowy region) and asked them if they'd make an offer. I just don't want to get lowballed and not know it. (although, i suppose if they took it for free it's cheaper than me bringing it to the dump at $0.10 per pound here.)

without inspecting it there are too many variables, could be worth it's weight for scrap, or just needs a few parts/machining.

woot for "near" Lake Placid haha my family has a place in Wilmington for skiing

This.
Unfortunately, any diagnosis online will be a complete guess. It's almost impossible for anyone to tell you what something like this is worth over the internet.

yeah, i recognize this truth. I was just hoping for some ballpark figures, or maybe some values of other engines that are non-working. I'm not sure there is much demand for this type of engine, seeing how many eBay used, working, engines are available. afterall, i only paid $1500 shipped for an EJ253 with 21k on the clock.

on that note, i havn't actually got my new engine started yet... but i think it's just the battery being super low (car sat for a long time). so we'll see how good of a deal that engine really was. (hopefully tonight or tomorrow i will get that dang battery charged)

Trash it. I to also has a 2009 2.5i that started leaking oil at 47k miles. Absolute POS. Get a Honda or Toyota for peace of mind.
