Default Low gas milage recently :/

Hey guys,

I have a 2012 WRX base and I originally changed the oil with mobil 1 syn. I realized that the rex was eating through it so per recommendation on a bunch of WRX forum I switched to Rotella T6 (5W-40) It seems to be doing a lot better on the burning oil problem but my fuel economy dropped! Im not sure if its the oil winter blend (already?) or something else. I used to average about 20-21mpg driving rough and about 23-24 when I drove nice. but now driving hard i get 17 and nice only 19... Im not sure if something else could be wrong that would be causing me such crap mpg. I checked the MAF, cleaned the air filter, inspected all hoses everything looks okay. Also im not complaining about oh bad gas milage I wish I got more blah, its just my car was being consistant and then this makes me think there could be a problem or something

Thanks

This is the answer. I use T6 year round and while the dash gauge isn't super accurate, it is still telling a story.

I see 23-24-25 on it in the spring/summer/fall. Since November I can't get past 21-22 max.

Your car may have come with 5W-20 or 5W-30 oil. These oils are thinner and offer less
friction. These lighter weights might be better in the winter than 5W-40.

My gas mileage has struggled lately as well. I attributed it to the quality of gas we are receiving now also. Im averaging about 21mpg. Used to easily get 23. Not a huge difference I suppose.

Thanks for all the responses i figured the 5w-40 would do it a little bit. Im glad that im not the only one with gas milage affected its probably just the gas just over reacting!
