Default Anarchy Motive - Weighted Spherical Shift Knob Review

Forman Performance is offering a limited-time Introductory Group Buy on the new Anarchy Motive Weighted Spherical Shift Knobs in the Vendor Group Buy Section. We're very particular about the brands we sell, and since it's a fairly new product, we weren't sure if we wanted anything to do with it. But Anarchy Motive was kind enough to give us a sample to try out, giving us a real world expectation of what our customers will experience. Needless to say, the results were amazing and we're big fans of this product! Review is below and the Group Buy can be found here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2425413

Let's be honest here... Can an aftermarket shift knob alone really make a big difference? I never thought it could, at least, not a difference noteworthy enough.

The first time I held the Anarchy Motive Shift Knob in my hand, I was shocked. It was heavy. As in, much heavier than I expected. A few expletives left my mouth as I tried to gather my thoughts on how it could possibly be this dense! You could tell that the owner of Anarchy Motive had seen this reaction on a regular basis before he'd dropped the shift knob into my hand. It was no shock to him to see someone surprised at the heft of this knob. I was offered to try the knob out for a week and see if I like it. I'll be honest, my expectations were minimal. After all, it's was just a shift knob... right?

The Anarchy Motive Shift Knob twirled on just as easily as the factory knob twirled off. Once I felt I'd tightened it down enough, the boot was then secured over it's built-in retainer. The first movement of the lever with the new knob changed my perspective significantly! I wish there was a way that I could show or demonstrate the very obvious change in how my shifter felt. Each throw was smoother, effortlessly slipping into gear, positively finding it's home. After a week of driving with the new knob, I simply cannot go back. The large, spherical design feels so deliberate and massive in the hand. Almost like you're holding the entire world in your fist and every shift feels like a gift from a Roman God. Yeah, that's right, Apollo would shift with this knob and the Colosseum would break into a roaring cheer.

For the sake of comparison, I switched back to the factory knob and started realizing that it took more effort per throw and the engagement was no longer as buttery smooth as with the Anarchy Motive knob. Truly, I had very high regards for the factory knob until I tried this one out. I've had a few other knobs on my car in the past, one of which was the COBB knob. That knob had me misshifting all over the place during a drag event, so much so that I switched back to the factory one and put down better times since the shifts were more predictable and getting into gear was easier. Since then, my perspective on aftermarket knobs has been cynical to say the least. But this gem of a product here has really made an impact on me. We can't keep them in stock at the shop. We have a couple of them displayed on the front counter, and as soon as someone holds on in their hand, it's a done deal. Whether we have their first choice of color or not, they don't want to leave without it. That's how good these are. It's truly hard to relay this sort of feeling online, so all I can do is assure that you'll be nothing short of impressed with this knob when you feel it for yourself. For the quality, feel, fitment, look and price, the Anarchy Motive is going to be a very difficult knob to compete against for a long time ahead.

They make shifting feel better. The weight alone makes it fall into gear effortlessly. Great upgrade for your ride IMO!

Absolutely. It's pretty amazing how much of a difference it makes. Have yet to have someone try it at the shop and not leave with one.

Just received my knob from the group buy. Let me start by saying I've never had an aftermarket knob before. Never really thought it was going to make a big difference in shifting. Boy was I wrong.

I went pick up the knob yesterday evening. Vim gave me the box and when I first picked it up, I was a surprised. I didn't realize a tiny little knob could weight this much. Took it out of the box and held it in my hand for a bit. My first thought was that it might actually be too heavy. Screwed it on real quick in the parking lot for the drive home. Took side streets so I could test it out and get a feel for my new toy. What a difference I was truly taken aback by how much this knob changed the feel of shifting. Engaging the gear is smooth as silk. Shifting feels amazing now. It's almost as if I just have to give the knob a little nudge in the right direction and it falls into place.

Coming from the stock knob to this one, the shape does feel a little odd. I liked the shape of the stock knob as it fit my hand pretty well. The ball design will take a little getting used to, but nothing that I'm complaining about. The only other feature I'll have to wait to see on is the ceramic coating to limit the knob temperature in extreme heat or cold. Overall, this knob is absolutely fantastic

Just got mine in the mail the other day and after a couple days driving with it im happy i spent the money. It makes all driving situations better, its easier to engage reverse from parked, to shift to 1st while rolling, and drastically reduces WOT misses due to clipping a gate (sloppy oem bushings).

I bought the gunmetal because it looked like it would go with the 2011 console. The color is dead on, however the console is more of a semi gloss finish, while the knob is a gloss finish. Still, they go together amazingly.

I also like how the knob sits about 1/2 and inch lower, I felt the stock setting was just to high, so that helped for me.

I have a vodoo knob in my s2000 which I will be replacing if Anarchy Motive releases one for that car.

Thanks guys

I decided to stop by at Forman Performance yesterday to setup an appointment for a 60k. I had to ask about the new shift knobs that I heard such amazing things about. Vim grabbed me one off the shelf and handed it to me. It is truly amazing how heavy it is. Vim said that I could go outside to screw it on and try it out.

Even from the shift into reverse, I knew that this shift knob would be awesome. As I drove around the block I literally felt like it would be impossible to miss a gear. Every shift is effortless and as smooth as butter.

Thank you Anarchy Motive for developing an amazing product. and Thanks again Vim for letting me try it out!

If you stop by Forman Performance I seriously doubt that you will leave without one of these!

That is a WRX knob in the STi, the angle makes it look strange. I installed the boot on this one myself.

Ok I received my badd@zz Anarchy Motive knob a few days ago. If anyone reading this knows anything about me, I am pretty picky and anal about what I put in my cars, and more importantly, I generally will not use ANYTHING that is purely blingy.

These shift knobs are by far the nicest upgrade you can possibly do to your shift-train (for lack of a better term). Quite simply put, this upgrade changes EVERYTHING about how my car feels when driving (shifting) aggressively, or just driving around town low-key. It made it so that I no longer have to consciously think about the act of shifting, particularly when blowing throw the gears in a stop light to stop light romp. I can now focus entirely on driving and know that a light direct push or pull and the tranny is in the next gear (whichever gear that happens to be). It has to be experienced to be appreciated, and I mean that with all sincerity.

When you get the box handed to you by the postman, you immediately know that there is something significant in the box. It is well packed with an inch of open cell foam padding on 3 sides, with a similar 1" foam plug on the top keeping this behemoth in a safe comfy cushion during shipping. The post office would literally have to drop this thing off a 5 story building for it to damage the knob. I was impressed.

Once you get the package open, you quickly realize these guys mean business, and it is very obvious that some precision machining took place to make this thing as round and symmetrical as it is. The threads on the bottom side of the knob are clean, crisp and well done. The powder coating on my gun-metal knob was flawless, and nearly perfectly matched the exterior color of my GC Widebody. I was absolutely stoked, and knew immediately that this would be a center piece of my rides interior. The reverse lock out recess allows enough clearance to provide smooth operation, but is close tolerance enough that it prevents any excessive lateral movement of the lockout.

Once installed, it looks like this is the shift knob that Subaru should have provided with the car when it was new. And my first test drive with the new knob confirmed exactly that. As I mentioned, I cannot believe just how much of an improvement this Anarchy Motive shift knob provided my shift-train. I would imagine that even without shifter bushings and a short shifter, this thing would seriously improve your shifting enjoyment, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that coupled with my completely upgraded shift linkage (bushings, shift lever, etc) that this knob absolutely seals the deal.

In closing, I don't think I have ever done a review like this in my several years on Nasioc. There is a good reason for that. Of all the products I have purchased or received over the years, this Anarchy Motive shift knob is BY FAR the best bang for your buck upgrade I have ever owned. It really is as simple as that.

I will take some installed pics and upload them as soon as it stops being wet outside... I am afraid of the rain.

Just got my knob today. First impression: HOLY CRAP heavy. I love it. Looks awesome too. The guys at Anarchy Motive guys hooked me up with some free swag since there were some complications with the first powdercoat, but they had GREAT communication and were very apologetic. Definitely would do business with these guys again. They were great dudes.

Cliff notes:
Knob is awesome. Free swag. Awesome dudes. 10/10.

Got my knob from Forman Performance last week. Great service and speedy delivery. The knob is definitely very heavy and I am pleased with that aspect.

I ordered the matte white 6 speed knob and the coating does not seem to be very thick. Upon close inspection, I can see darker areas through the white powder coat. The glossy red and blue knobs seem to have a much thicker coat, maybe due to a gloss coating layer? The matte white powder coat appears to have only a very thin layer of coating in comparison allowing any surface color imperfections in the steel to show through.

It's not a deal breaker for but just a bit disappointed that this passed the QC process and got shipped to me.

I've been researching which shift knob to buy for over a year now, and kept sticking with my stock knob. About 2 weeks ago I stumbled across the "BestThatICould" shift knob and was intrigued. Long story short, I got in touch with Anarchy Motive.

Another happy customer here. This thing fits really well in your hand, doesn't get too cold, weighs as much as a bowling ball (literally shocked the first time I picked it up), and makes shifting way more precise and confident.

Personal highlights for me:

1) It's drilled perfectly, very deep into the shift knob, so you can screw it on extremely low. But if you want to have it a little higher, the thread is nice a snug so you could leave it unscrewed halfway and still have a firm/well-seated shift knob. It really lowered the height of my Kartboy SS with the stock knob a lot.

2) No one ever mentions this in the "heavy shift knob" threads, but: IT DECREASED CABIN NOISE SIGNIFICATLY. The whining of first and second gear, and the NVH of the kartboy bushings are about 20% of the volume they used to be. SIGNIFICANTLY quieter in the cabin now.

This product is exactly why I love forum culture. Anarchy Motive has answered the needs of a niche market, and done it better (heaviest shift knob available by 200+ grams) and cheaper ($120 cheaper than its direct competition).

This product will soon be a Scooby phenomenon, you can mark my words.

I'm not going to go into all of the great features that you can read above in the comments- I'm just going to say that I love my Anarchy Motive knob. I love the way it feels and it looks great.
Absolutely worth the money!
