Yea I'd like to know this also as I'm running the old Manley's. Are they lighter? Like the new pistons? If so are they weaker like Phil from ET said is possible with the new pistons? Did you ask out front to CNC another block without cutting the already weak notched section's for case bolts? Sorry If it doesn't make sense I know I post "false info" LMAO |

Am I missing something with this. But someone asked if you could do this to a sleeved block and you said it would be a waste but....................
Once the process is complete with the bore and hone job, haven't you already reduced the tiny stock liner to a weaker state? I just don't see how this is going to help anything. On the other hand I am very interested to see the results. |

Yes curious what problems you had? I am just waiting on rods to get this thing together.

I asked Micah about them, we chatted a little but I haven't heard back from him yet. I have some old Manley H-Beams on reserve if I can't find another sponsor for the rods. I am also contacting Manely tonight about possibly testing the new lighter turbo-tuffs so I will update once I know.

I would say that for the purpose of this test, you should go with what you know, and what will not break the bank.

Would be stoked to try them out. I actually saw a set of the old Cosworth rods at the machine shop the other day and couldn't believe how light they were.

Not Honey Badger. I don't want those getting confused with the 4340 VAR drop-in rods which are on the way to Jeff...tonight.
The Honey Badger has numerous dimensional changes, are 300M, etc...require special pistons and such. |

You should make a thread about the differences between the two rods, with lots of pictures, and numbers, and graphs. All that engineering nerdgasmic stuff we all love so much!!!

Well there isn't really a ton to say about them nor graph.
The Honey Badger rod is paired with it's pistons. It is a 'proprietary' design, if you want to think of it in that way. The rod is 132.5mm and made in 300M and uses my standard 3/8" L19 rod bolt. This is done to get weight down on the rod and out of the piston via pushing it to a 28.7mm compression height. I then use a smaller 9310 (tool steel) pin. This saves pin weight also and leaves me a touch more ringland than using the standard 23 mm pin. That's the jist of why the change in the rod. It wasn't designed to take a nuclear bomb but to be a nicely refined EJ257 for guys running 35R territory power. IIRC, the rods are 516 or 517 grams. ***Note that I don't use a 132.5mm rod on a 79mm stroke crank and use the marketing ploy of calling it a long rod, like some shops do. It isn't a long rod!! I save that term for the 134.5mm rod on the 75mm crank. The 4340 rod that Jeff is getting is designed to work with your normal off-the-shelf piston. It was designed for more power than the HoneyBadger. Weight is 544 grams and uses the same bolt. I have numerous other rods out there; from 490 gram rods for serious auto-x use to destroked rods speced for 1200 hp and 10,000 RPM with a 555 gram piston package (beefy pins and piston for that app)...reasons I actually need to give my horribly neglected website some time. Heck, the facebook page doesn't even get much love ![]() But now we are way off topic for this thread!! Oh and Jeff, send the pics over that we talked about on the phone. +1.. I haven't had any issues with my short block but some documented awesomeness would have been nice to know. I should have been on the built motor threads for a few more months.

i dont suspect any issues with my combo but would ne nice to have beefier wrist pins and possibly a lighter combo if its even possible. the tt rods are very tough.
