contact SOA and let them know they may be able to help you out, they are pretty good about it. I just got my car back from the dealership for a blown piston ringland, took 3 weeks though...

Just had the same thing happen to my car. Noise came out of no where. It's a 2012 and has just under 9k on the odo. Immediately brought it to the dealer and they requested my service records. Oil was changed at 4400 miles and only had one issue with this car before. The hose coming from the inter cooler to the throttle body came off(which as I understand is a known issue).

Hoping they cover this on warranty. I have not "beat" on this car. It's my daily driver and I only have a 4-5 mile commute to and from work on 30-40mph roads.

Spun a rod bearing in my 12 last week. 19k miles. Took the dealership a week to replace the block with a 2013 block. Due to zinc in the 12 rod bearings?:/

2 weeks ago I was on my way home and I started to hear a knocking sound coming from my engine I got home and park the car. The following day I called the dealership told them wat happen and the advised me not to drive it they will send a toe truck for it, got to the dealership and the first thing the service ask me is "have u done any modifications to the car"? I said no it is as stock as the day I drove it off the lot apart from the vortex generator I bought from them the same day I bought the car, they put me in a crosstrek and said they wouldn't get to it until monday (3 days later) I said ok and left. A week later I hot a call saying that 1 of the rings came off the piston in the cylinder which is thw knocking I'm hearing so they will have to order a new short block. Yesterday I got a call saying my repairs might not be covered under warranty because my ecu has been tampered with. Now my car has never been tuned in any form it is exactly as I drove it off the lot less than three months ago . Has anyone had to deal with anything like this before with subaru? Any and all input will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance..

Stick to your guns. If you didn't do anything, don't let them tell you that you did.

Sorry I didn't specify but I bought the car brand new at that same dealership 3 months ago i picked it up with 11 miles on it. 2 weeks after having the car I had to take it back for an alignment because it kept pulling to the right which it still does even after having it aligned, the second time my car was there is when I had the first oil change. Those were the only times my car have been worked on.

Maybe you need to take it to another dealer.

You would think they would have handled this better since I bought the car from them

Default What happens to resale value?

I've just recently had to take my 2013 WRX in for a rod knock as well... I have a long commute, and my car was up near 18k miles... I'm worried that if I go to trade in the car or sell it privately that the car will be dramatically devalued.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I was considering talking with my dealership about either a replacement car due to the possible devaluation of the car, or asking if they'll give me a nice trade in value for it to allow me to purchase a 2014... Any thoughts?

Can you request concrete info as to how they have determined that? Surely, they do not expect that you are just going to take their word for it. I would like to see what dealerships are using as evidence in cases like this.

The dealership is not giving me anything concrete everthing I asked for they told me they can't give me, like a print out of wat they sent to subaru, they said they have no way if printing it out and I'm definitely not gonna sit oround n let this go and there seems to be a lot of 2011, 2012 and 2013 engine failures with short bock replacements

Sounds shady. Well, wait to see what comes back. It's possible that they just said that but they really do not know. AFAIK, to be able to tell whether ECU was tampered with or not would require electronic equipment that can read the ECU ROM and possibly do some checksum checks or have some other means of determining if a flash has been made. The second one is subject to major debate whether Subaru even has a way of doing that. Let's see what comes back. Stick to your guns. Subaru has made some mistakes on these cars and the trends are showing. The firewall issue is another example of 'deny first' attitude. Some have gotten it taken care of, others have been taken for a ride by dealerships.

It sounds like they are just trying to interrogate you into admitting something. If they can't prove it then I would believe it wouldn't be a justifiable cause. Take it above their head and get anyone high up on the chain involved if needed. Business HATE negative feedback. The people lower on the totem pole don't care but those higher up will.

They said they have already analized the data sent to them by the dealership and that they found that my ecu was tampered with so my warranty might be voided, it's funny to me that my ecu was looked over and nothing was found and all of a sudden someone came back off of vacation and found something, something that doesn't even exist. What problems are they having with the firewall?

They told me that there is some numbers that should be in the ecu that should be there from the factory which is not there as a result of a flashed ecu, so unless they did something to my car at the dealership or these numbers were not in there from the factory this is impossible.

lol that is very funny. Reading all this kind of made me get that "cold feet" feeling prior to a marriage but when my 2014 factory ordered subie comes in and i pray none of these unfortunate things happen to me, ill be back to say "hey...everythings peachy over here, fine and dandy." Maybe we need more good news on these subies rather than stories like this thread..what a nightmare.
