Default Upgrade/Replace Speakers

Any suggestions on where i can get a good deal on some speakers and tweeters.
My right speaker is kinda blown and i thought i'd upgrade the whole system to something a little better than stock

Also suggestions on what kind would be helpful too.

Thanks

Crutchfield for starters. Maybe not the best "deal" but arguably the best service.

Not a problem. What are you looking for? What is your budget? If you are going to upgrade everything I recommend doing it right the first time and saving or spending more for better quality. Focal, Hertz, MB Quart, Rainbow, just to name a few.

I'd like to keep it around 100$-150$

i dont plan to really upgrade the whole system and no plans for any subs,
my stock speaker on the right side or most likely my tweeter seems to be blown and has an annoying buzzing sound when i turn the volume up so i thought it would be a good time to get some upgraded speakers that are just better than stock.

Just above $150, http://www.ebay.com/itm/JBL-MS-62C-6...&forceRpt=true

I haven't heard them but they get really good reviews. I just bought some more expensive speakers, but if they don't work out, I'm ordering the JBL's.

You will also need spacers/adapters for the speaker holes in your door, get them from here:

Honestly if you are looking to replace your fronts, buy a quality set of components. Amp them but leave the rears running off headunit power. Running higher rms speakers off your HU will leave you wanting more as they won't be using their full potential.

I second Patrick (phenryiv1) at subaruaudio.net Great guy, good pricing and quick delivery. He knows his stuff. I will post some pictures of my Focals with his spacers when I get on my computer.

Sonicelectronix is also good but I would be skeptical buying high end product from them. Crutchfield is an authorized dealer for all of their product. Sonic isn't authorized for everything. I have bought from both though and both are good.

Note for you: If you buy anything under $100(pair) on amazon or ebay you're not going to get better sound. Those are only useful for people with absolute crap speakers in the first place, which these cars do not.

Already have an aftermarket HU. It's a marked improvement in sound over stock but still missing something, I don't need anything over the top either. I'm used to BOSE (I know it's not great) in my last 2 cars and other car I drive.

Are you referring to 4 speakers or 2? I would pick up a set of components for the front. Then amp them down the line for full potential.

Try www.woofersect.com you can get some really good speakers for cheap. CDT speakers are what I use, they are really excellent for the money.

The two up front would be most important since I'm usually the only one in the car, but all 4 would be nice. The thing is, I'm new to this and don't know what sizes I would need etc.

You can fit a lot with spacers. You will need spacers regardless for a good fit. I would go with a component set of 6.5"

If you have a local car audio shop around go and listen to a lot of different sets to start filtering out what you like and don't like. Any set you get though you are going to want to amp.

I picked up a set of Hertz ESK 165 from a local authorized dealer for $170. You can find deals but if you are going for a quality set I would get them from an authorized dealer. Last thing you want is to order a set online just to find out down the road they are fakes.

I disagree. My Polk dB651 coaxials sound better than my OEM speakers, and I had the "premium" speakers that all '11 WRX models received. THe dB651 coaxials were an upgrade.

I'd recommend Polk dB6501 components in the front, a pair of metra wiring harness, and a pair of speaker mounting adapters (http://www.subaruaudio.net/subaru-speaker-spacers/)

Under your $150 budget and much better than stock.

If you want to upgrade all 4 speakers for around $150, get Polk dB501 for the rear, Polk dB651 for the front, and 2 sets of wiring adapters and 2 paier of mounting adapters. Still right around $150.

The key thing when looking for speakers will be figuring out if you prefer warm or sharp high notes. This will most likely dictate which type of material the tweeters are made out of. I used to be drawn to MB Quart, but now find the highs to be a bit 'bright'. My current Forester has a set of JL Audio from the prior owner, which I enjoy. The best bet is to try and find a shop that you can hear the various Warm and Bright speakers, then make a decision. If this is not an option, then definitely ask as many questions as possible on the forums.

As for fitment into the Subaru, you will most likely need a set of speaker spacers (as many have referenced above). Note: The "free" ones from crutchfield are horrible and require metal sheers to get them to work (the rear doors at least). A few options to consider:

1) These can either be easily made with a jig saw and MDF (be sure to paint it when done) or you can purchase aftermarket units.

2) Purchase a set of adapter plates. We sell them, as do others. Our units are made out Injected Molded Reinforced Fiber Resin, which is more dense than MDF and ABS. Each kit is made in the USA using recycled materials. Guaranteed 100% satisfaction, or your money back. Simply click on the image to see all of the offerings for the 2006-7 models.

I looked at audiosavings store, pure confusion. Now they have several "2 pairs speaker" deals going on. Unless there is general consensus that the dB651 +db501 is the best I can do, can someone recommend me 2 pairs, front and back that are going to sound great for under 250$? I like my trunk space and OEM look, so no subs amps and what have you.

Also: Do I need midbass?
