I think it's worth it just for safety/insurance. With a winter set that you roll on for ~4 months in Vancouver you end up saving the wear on your summer set anyways so it's not like you're wasting your money away.

Our car's are AWD; a good set of all season's is kinda all that's needed for the Lower Mainland...

Get some summer tires. Get some winter tires. If you want a third set, get all seasons. That's how I roll.

Wrong dude. You need summer, winter and R-comps. That's how you should roll James. ;-)

Exactly. AWD has nothing to do with stopping ability. That completely depends on tires. And a BBK or Brembos aren't going to make you stop quicker in the snow. All seasons don't do anything great. Not great in the summer and not great in the winter.

That's just what they are, all season, aka a trade off for durability and compatibility mostly.

Not god's own chariot's tires. Those are reserved for Mazdaspeed 3 owners.

allseasons can get u by, but my family's safety is priceless so I have dedicated summers and winter tires. The winters give u excellent traction and help u stop on ice, snow and slush.

Everyone here is right brembos cant help u stop on snow/ice. Thats why u see 4x4 trucks in the ditch on highways during snow storms, they are usually rolling on allseasons and think they are invincable until they try to stop.

All season tires are good enuf as decided by our insurance companies - who have to pay the $$. So they know the stats.

You can argue the family safety line - but that's a slippery slope. Because it's technically safer to get new winter tires for the priceless family each year. Each month even. Perhaps each time you get into the car? There's no obvious and rational place to draw the line.

The insurance companies have the stats. Cypress won't let you drive up the hill w/o proper tires or chains.

Speaking of - chains are amazing. Way better than snow tires for safety and traction. Once you get them on that is. lol.

I run snowies. But I can say that snowies on my car is more dangerous than all seasons on my car since my car is an instant rally finland with snow tires on.

Chains are so much fun. Feels like you're driving a tank.

chains are all good and fun.
especially in Zagarus's case.
None of that sissy-cable-spiderweb-sad-excuse-for-snow-chains.

but why didn't anyone bring up these bad boys?

I don't mean to thread jack, but I heard through the grape vine that you can get some Wanli Winter Challenger tires for real cheap these days.
Something like $50 a tire. Anybody have some experience with them?
Heard they are studdable too

for what it's worth, i found winter tires to make a complete difference on my 2010 impreza when it came to driving in the snow and slush

Doesn't anyone remember all of the old "Oh hai, wtfbbq I bent my RS control arm on RE-92 M/S tires in the snow" threads?

I think Vancouver weather warrants a set of rain tires as a third set to compliment the summar high-perf and snow tires
