Default 2008 2.5i Exhaust Question

I'm looking into getting a different exhaust, or possibly just an exhaust tip. Does an exhaust tip make much of a difference sound wise or would it be better to bite the bullet and get a WRX exhaust? The stock tip is just pathetic, but I'm not sure if i really need to go and buy a whole new exhaust system.

The tip is just a tip. It will only make the exhaust look different. A WRX exhaust really won't be any louder. You're going to have to go aftermarket if you want a louder exhaust (or gut your current muffler or something along those lines).

I'm not necessarily looking for a louder noise, but would a WRX exhaust make a different noise?

aftermarket, or stock?

I have the obx wrx catback on mine, and it has a nice note to it. not loud compared to others, but it is noticeable over the non-existent stock exhaust note.

check out the auto-x vids i have on my youtube for what the exhaust sounds like during driving.

wrx exhaust will deliver a better free flowing exhaust. i swapped them myself last year on my 08 2.5i hatch with a 2010 wrx hatch exhaust (it's a turboback) and it was difficult getting the hangers on. you will notice overtime, better take offs, a slightly louder but not too much difference either, not as the same boxer rumble as oem. it bolts up easily. all you need is a donut gasket and flange bolts from Subaru dealership because the old ones will definitely break in half when u dismount oem exhaust. it's a decent upgrade when you want oem performance. but you are better off with a aftermarket setup if you want more out of it.

theres a few online place that all sell it for $225 and then 75 shipping, its a massive box. so it was $300 and I installed it myself. the kit comes with all the gaskets and bolt you will need. the hardest part was removing/ scraping off the old donut gasket lol

OBX catback ebay

The reason I chose this one (1) the price (2) 2.5" piping (3) has a resonator.
it can be heard clearly from within the cabin under acceleration, but under little load/ cruising ( i.e. highway driving) there is zero drone. I didn't want anything obnoxious or loud, and this fit the bill perfectly!

Edit. I have a journal/ log on another subaru site with the install pictures (I think you need to join to see since it's in a member only area, but its totally worth it)

or theres an older post on here of someone else's: Linky
